Rush Limbaugh to Vatican: Vacuum Cleaner, Not Washing Machine, Most Liberating for Women

Radio show host and conservative lightning rod Rush Limbaugh piped in yesterday on the Vatican’s assertion that the washing machine did more to liberate women than birth control. Discussing the matter yesterday, Limbaugh insisted the Vatican’s paper perpetuated "stereotypes" and did a "disservice" to women:

This comment does a disservice to women everywhere.  It plays upon stereotypes.  These stereotypes must be challenged; they must be swept aside.

This is highly insulting to my sensibilities and my sensitivities.  I mean, the washing machine more liberating than the pill?

This continual playing to stereotypes must stop. It must be challenged, and it must be swept aside. Women face enough tough decisions each and every day particularly during this recession.

Could it be that Limbaugh, who once said that feminism was simply a way for unattractive women to break into mainstream society, has had a change of heart in terms of women’s rights? He did, after all, hold that summit on women’s issues, which he says highlighted his awareness of the "trials and tribulations" facing women. Not so fast, for Limbaugh, who’s known to pepper his commentary with a particular brand of humor, continued:

To sit here and pretend that you are a comedian and to say that the washing machine was more liberating than the pill according to the Catholic church, this has gone far enough.  Besides, everybody knows it was the vacuum cleaner that liberated women more than the pill.

His caller, Kelly from Ohio, said she would gladly take the washing machine and the vacuum cleaner, because the pill, she said, hurt women’s health and also encourages them to have sex willy-nilly, "Men and women are different and for me to be on the pill and then beholden to having sex whenever my husband wants to have sex, um, how horrible a relationship would that be?  We do NFP, Natural Family Planning, and it’s a — it’s a mutual understanding." Well, that’s a relief!

Well coming the Masters Voice what else would we expect, he is such an authority on everything in his little mind and he speaks for most of those on the right so I’m sure most will agree with him!!!  To call him a male chauvinistic pig would be too kind.

Why do we even talk about him? He is so irrelevant and outrageous. But he is having fun with all the attention drawn to him. Who really cares what he says.

I think we are really over hearing anymore of what Limbaugh has to say, he is given too much relevance to anything.  When he grows up maybe and has something that even resembles rational thoughts he might be more credible!!!

I’m sure you are correct it still doesn’t mean that he isn’t a divisive character and enjoys stirring up trouble with his remarks.  For those who listen to him believe his every word and have no desire to hear any other opinions from anyone else as what Limbaugh says is gospel to them.  All I can say is those folks who listen to him must be hard up for intelligent conversation!!

Finally, someone who actually admits Limbaugh likes to stir up trouble!!  Of course it wasn’t meant to come out that way I’m sure but you are still correct none the less.  I think you are the one who needs to wake up and smell the coffee here , we have a Rep Party that has totally lost it, no direction, no ideas, no plans, no leaders….need I go on?  There is nothing deceitful about the President my dear, you seem to be talking about the wrong party on that idea the wonderful party of "NO" is the answer to that.  If the Reps were in power today and that stimulus bill came out seeing as they has a lot of "pork" of their own in it…we wouldn’t see so much as one peep of complaint from them….it’s solely because Obama is running the show and they can’t stand it, that’s the long and the short of it!!  I am wide awake here, I think you are still living in the dream state of Rep Rule, well that has long gone and not before time too.

This is highly insulting to my sensibilities and my sensitivities.” Rush Limbaugh This from the man that said “Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society.” And he has the audacity to feign insult and anger over what the Vatican said? Now that’s rich.
