DNC Slams Sarah Palin for Refusing Education Funds (Video)

Sarah Palin’s under political fire once again. Only this time, it’s not over her clothes or her shoes, or her family affairs, but for refusing stimulus cash.

The Alaska governor says she’s only going to take up to 69 percent of the $930 million her state could receive. All right, that’s fine, she wants to save money — but some are concerned over where she’s looking to spend her stimulus. Rather than focus on education, for which she could get $170 million, or other government operations, the governor’s looking at shovel-ready construction projects. "We are not requesting funds intended to just grow government," Palin said, adding that Alaskans shouldn’t want the feds to "engineer" their future for them. "To me it’s a bribe. It’s here, take these dollars. But you’ve got to grow your government."

Anchorage school district’s superintendent, Carol Comeau, told The Anchorage Daily News she is "shocked and very disappointed" Palin turned down the school money. But Palin said it’s a matter of what Alaska can afford to pay for after the federal dollars dry up.

Palin isn’t the only governor saying "no" to the federal funds. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford wants to use his state’s allotted $700 million or so to pay down the Palmetto State’s debts, which, in turn, will allow it to spend more on schools. But it remains to be seen whether Palin or Sanford will face a fight from their state legislatures. Chances are likely there will be some sort of brawl. Alaska lawmakers will introduce a "safety net" resolution next week, "when we pass the resolution that basically says we’ll take anything the governor doesn’t," House Finance co-chair Rep. Mike Hawker told KTVA-TV.

The Democratic National Committee blasted Palin’s move as "political posturing," entitling one e-mail "Hypocrisy Watch: Palin’s Conversion on Federal Money." "Palin’s Never Seen a Federal Dollar She Didn’t Want … Until Now," the e-mail says, according to The Huffington Post. Ouch!

Here’s video of Palin’s press conference announcing her stimulus plans:

Now that’s puzzling.  How does funding schools "grow" government?  I think it’s prudent of any official to be concerned about the future, but aren’t our kids our future?  And shouldn’t educating them come first?  Well, hopefully the Alaska legislature will step up and do what they deem best for the state, and for the state’s children.

I think Palin is talking about school programs, etc., that fall under the umbrella of "education", but that will cost state heaps once federal money is gone.

Kids *are* our future, but mortgaging *thiers* for uncessary programs isn’t.

Rachel….that is so very true….Gov. Palin is watching out for her state of Alaska and the "generation theft" this so-called stimulus package is going to do….I think here are about 3+ Governors that are refusing this money….they are looking into the future….some of the jobs they are suppose to create, will end after the projects are done, which means laying off those new workers, which in turn they payout unemployment benefits which then their state is in deep trouble…..it’s a vicious circle of debt to the their state!

Why isn’t she interested in getting money for education, does she not care about the kids in her state?  I’m sure she will be hearing more about that from her own state officials especially the school system, they must be furious.  But she is only one of many who only want to pick and choose what they want..if they were so against it why take any of it to start with.  I’m sure there are many other states across the country who will gladly take any money they so stupidly reject.  They should rename themselves The No-Publican Party that’s all they seen to want to do is say no!!!

She does care abou the kids in her state.  But what happens to the kids after the Federal money is gone?  And like the other govenors she is selecting the funds that actually stimulate the economy to create jobs and state revenue rather than taking a one time hand out with lots of strings attached that will cost the state much more than they can pay in the long run!

Unlike some in Washington she understands how to run a government and just doesn’t take money that is thrown at them to be wasted!  They elected her as their governor to look out for their short as well as LONG term needs not create more government jobs that will have no funding down the road!

The NO party is saying NO to waste that The other party seems to think money grows on trees.

Classic difference between the way republicans think and democrats think……you can watch it state by state.

Oh yes, like her "thanks but no thanks" to the bridge to nowhere but she took the money anyway!!!   Sarah Palin is just playing politics here with her constituents and not worried about their welfare or in this case education!!!  If she felt so strongly about this money or as she said "it’s like a bribe" why does she want some and not all…if she is so principled why take any of it at all????????  Nothing to do with her being a Gov, just her playing politics pure and simple!!!

Then why are several governors across the country doing the same thing? Here in Texas, Gov. Perry is doing the same thing that Gov. Palin is. The money runs out after 5 years, then the state is committed to paying for the programs that Nobama crammed down their throats. It’s a choice of refusing, or tying their state to socialist mandated expenses.

They are all doing the same thing for the same reason, just playing politics and couldn’t care less about their state and what they may need.  Just posturing the lot of them but that’s alright as they will see what their state thinks of them come election time let them have at it I say.

How can the Federal governement mandate what a state needs? Does anyone remember States Rights and local self determination? People, this is what the War Between the States was fought over. Local self determination as opposed to centralized government off in some whack-job place like Washington, New York, or LA. Some people on this site just think that Washington has the right to shove Liberal Washington’s agenda down a states throat. Why do we have state and local governments. Why do we have school districts? Because values, priorities, and administration of those things is a LOCAL matter. Just because crackpot Libs want to paint someone as being ‘against children’ as a stupid, idiotic argument to implement Federal control and usurp what is constitutionally a local matter. Don’t force people in my state and neighborhood to have to pay for many years for something some bunch of idiot Libs off in some foreign state who know nothing about my state or neighborhood shove down our throats because they think they know best. Always leave it to a Lib to show stupidity with a sense of superiority.

All your ranting and hatred of anything Liberal does not change the fact that if any of these Gov want to say "no’ which of course is the language of the Cons that is up to them.  They will suffer down the road when it comes to re -election if the people of their states see their stubborn stance go against anything they may have wanted to see done for the betterment of that state.   Rant away about Obama and Liberals all you want we know who is the better party to run this country.

Actually, the people of the states will be angry if they DO take the money. Most average Americans (average being the people that live in between the East and Left coasts) realize that you can’t spend more than you have coming in. They realize that you especially can’t spend on frivolous things like Nobama is forcing. 9.3 trillion in deficits on a lot of gooey, feel-good, radical left crap is like someone making minimum wage going out and buying new cars and fishing boats just because they think it would be great for them to have. Average people don’t do those kinds of things, and average Americans realize the government shouldn’t do that kind of thing. Education is a local issue. It is not, nor has it ever been a Federal issue. This is another example of Nobama trying to force big government into an area of people’s lives where it has no business and tie states to programs that the Lib federal government will only pay for two years. Then we, as state citizens, are stuck with these stupid, useless programs that create useless, make work jobs for without funding from the idiots that forced them on us. Mainly, liberals. No thanks. The average American is not as stupid as liberals think we are.

You know this for a fact do you, have you gone out personally to ask these individuals in all these states their opinion?  Of course not but you profess to say they would all be mad if they took the money!!  I’m not saying all would agree with taking it but I sure would not say I know that they all would agree with it. No one can know that for sure even you with your know all wisdom.  You are right the average American is not stupid and they do understand the need for these states to get this money and can’t understand why some are refusing and I’m sorry but many do feel that the Cons are stupid and just being obstructionists over this.  Well ,whether you or the rest of The Party of No like it or not there is a Liberal President in power and not a moment too soon for this country, we need to bring it out of this hell hole left by the Cons.  Sit back and enjoy watching a real President at work it must have been hell these past 8 years watching Bush destroy this country, I know it was for us.
