DNC Slams Sarah Palin for Refusing Education Funds (Video)

Sarah Palin’s under political fire once again. Only this time, it’s not over her clothes or her shoes, or her family affairs, but for refusing stimulus cash.
The Alaska governor says she’s only going to take up to 69 percent of the $930 million her state could receive. All right, that’s fine, she wants to save money — but some are concerned over where she’s looking to spend her stimulus. Rather than focus on education, for which she could get $170 million, or other government operations, the governor’s looking at shovel-ready construction projects. "We are not requesting funds intended to just grow government," Palin said, adding that Alaskans shouldn’t want the feds to "engineer" their future for them. "To me it’s a bribe. It’s here, take these dollars. But you’ve got to grow your government."
Anchorage school district’s superintendent, Carol Comeau, told The Anchorage Daily News she is "shocked and very disappointed" Palin turned down the school money. But Palin said it’s a matter of what Alaska can afford to pay for after the federal dollars dry up.
Palin isn’t the only governor saying "no" to the federal funds. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford wants to use his state’s allotted $700 million or so to pay down the Palmetto State’s debts, which, in turn, will allow it to spend more on schools. But it remains to be seen whether Palin or Sanford will face a fight from their state legislatures. Chances are likely there will be some sort of brawl. Alaska lawmakers will introduce a "safety net" resolution next week, "when we pass the resolution that basically says we’ll take anything the governor doesn’t," House Finance co-chair Rep. Mike Hawker told KTVA-TV.
The Democratic National Committee blasted Palin’s move as "political posturing," entitling one e-mail "Hypocrisy Watch: Palin’s Conversion on Federal Money." "Palin’s Never Seen a Federal Dollar She Didn’t Want … Until Now," the e-mail says, according to The Huffington Post. Ouch!

I think Palin is talking about school programs, etc., that fall under the umbrella of "education", but that will cost state heaps once federal money is gone.
Kids *are* our future, but mortgaging *thiers* for uncessary programs isn’t.
Rachel….that is so very true….Gov. Palin is watching out for her state of Alaska and the "generation theft" this so-called stimulus package is going to do….I think here are about 3+ Governors that are refusing this money….they are looking into the future….some of the jobs they are suppose to create, will end after the projects are done, which means laying off those new workers, which in turn they payout unemployment benefits which then their state is in deep trouble…..it’s a vicious circle of debt to the their state!
Why isn’t she interested in getting money for education, does she not care about the kids in her state? I’m sure she will be hearing more about that from her own state officials especially the school system, they must be furious. But she is only one of many who only want to pick and choose what they want..if they were so against it why take any of it to start with. I’m sure there are many other states across the country who will gladly take any money they so stupidly reject. They should rename themselves The No-Publican Party that’s all they seen to want to do is say no!!!
She does care abou the kids in her state. But what happens to the kids after the Federal money is gone? And like the other govenors she is selecting the funds that actually stimulate the economy to create jobs and state revenue rather than taking a one time hand out with lots of strings attached that will cost the state much more than they can pay in the long run!
Unlike some in Washington she understands how to run a government and just doesn’t take money that is thrown at them to be wasted! They elected her as their governor to look out for their short as well as LONG term needs not create more government jobs that will have no funding down the road!
The NO party is saying NO to waste that The other party seems to think money grows on trees.
