Sebelius Underreported Abortion Doctor's Donations

Kathleen Sebelius, President Obama’s pick to head Health and Human Services, will no doubt face more questions over her political involvement with pro-choice politics.

Though she’s personally against abortions, Sebelius, who’s currently the Governor of Kansas, has publicly opposed some anti-abortion legislation, legislation which has right-wingers insisting she’s not the right person to head the nation’s health department. Well, those calls grow a bit louder today, after it was revealed that Sebelius misrepresented the amount of money she received from Dr. George Tiller, one of the few doctors in the nation to offer late-term abortions.

Sebelius’ original disclosure forms claimed Tiller gave her only $12,450 between 1994 and 2001 but records indicate that Tiller gave Sebelius at least $22,000 between 2000 and 2001. Sebelius’ nomination has not yet cleared the Senate and her team is now insisting she made a simple mistake on her budget forms, according to the Associated Press’ Erica Werner.

That may be true, but her opponents are trying their hardest to derail the governor’s nomination. Troy Newsman, who heads the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, insisted: "Sebelius’ continued unwillingness to tell the truth about her relationship with Tiller, in spite of the evidence, shows that from an ethical standpoint alone, she is not fit to serve … She simply cannot be trusted."

This was obviously just an error. What reason would she have had to purposely report the wrong amount? The two figures are not different enough to have made any difference if she had reported the larger figure first and certainly would not have been worth the hassle.

DeB, I want to share this powerful piece from today’s NYTimes by Judith Warner with you.  I hope that everybody reads it.  We all tend to simplfy situations; the answers are never as simple as we wish….

starry Nite
Tony Perkins, leader of the wing nut pack, has been beating the drum and stirring the pot.  He is constantly tying a ribbon around her and Dr. Tiller.   It is ironic that he would be named Tony Perkins.

Yes, starry, I mentioned that on the other thread about anti-choice (whatever they meant). I assume you mean Tony Perkins’ name = the Bates guy in "Psycho" = should change his name = or he’ll be assumed and maybe is "crazy". And watch out for shower curtains.

SJ — "Simple Mistake"  — I can remember when our bookkeeper (since retired) made a $35.00 error one year in paying the company taxes.  You would not believe the letters and the hounding we took from the IRS!  It was absolutely ridiculous!  And, now, because she’s being considered for a position with this administration, this was a "simple mistake".

Possily this is an incidious disease spreading throughout the Democratic party - sorta like the plague!

Why of course its just a mistake, an ommision…who doesn’t overlook an extra 10k? Show of hands folks (ie, non elected and/or politically connected members of the great unwashed masses)…on Thursday, tell the IRS you made a big “oopsie” on Wednesday. See how thay flies ONE DAY LATE..or like Gov. Sebilius (or any other “prominent” pol) make the admission a few years later. Ask for a “do over.” See what happens… Actually, I hear they have very liberal computer access times at the Club Feds….so anyone who tries this can report back.

Libra, Sibelius so hoped no one would notice… and it isn’t the $10,000 income error, as much as it is the guy who gave it to her. Yech !!!

Well, Marjorie, with politicians we have to swallow a lot it seems. Makes me wonder why we vote in the first place—at times.
