Sheila Nevins on Voting

Sheila Nevins
You earn. You owe.

I’d rather exempt war for peace, but that’s based on who you elect. So vote your tax dollars for the public good.

I believe that only people who actually pay taxes should be able to vote.  43% of Americans do not pay taxes.    They shouldn’t be able to vote in my opinion.

Mel, I don’t know how to tell you this….but I didn’t hear anything coming from your cranium.   j/k!

Which 43% of Americans do not pay taxes?

Google would be a nice place to go for openers.

deber, you were right to ask me to Google and as you know, I did. See below the results. But you never answered my question:

Is this where you routinely receive information?

Is this site a place where you routinely receive information?

Absolutely not!  I get my information from many many sources.   If I have clicked on a link that I do not think is reliable I go other places as most people do.    To suggest that anyone goes to one source is to suggest there aren’t many sources available.

"Yes, true. Families with low income or even low middle to middle income with a few kids usually don’t have tax liability due to fthe $1000 child tax credits, and might even get back more than they paid in if they are eligible for EIC which goes up to almost $40K for a married couple with 2 kids, and almost $38K for a single parent with 2 kids. A married couple with 2 kids can make up to $38K, maybe a little more, and not pay any federal income tax.

That doesn’t count the large number of people who illegally evade taxes by working "under the table" and not filing.

No, they aren’t counting kids in that calculation.

AMT has pretty much shut down the ability of high income people who have a lot of deductions to avoid tax altogether."

Google and you can pull up all the information you need to get your answer.

Well, deber, I did Google for the answer. I asked in Google: Do 43% of Americans not pay taxes? The first hit came from this site: http://www.stormfront.org/forum/showthread.php?t=591269 Its logo was a round circle with a cross and the words: White Pride World Wide. I read a few of the answers. Not sure I liked this site at all, yet, their first title was indeed almost exactly what you said:

43 Percent Of Americans Pay No Federal Income Tax, A Sign That Something’s Wrong

Is this where you routinely receive information?

I apologize for that.   The data on the internet is 40%.    However, the recent figure they are using now is 43%.

You realize the 20% of Americans now receive Social Security and a majority of those people do not pay income taxes.

However, that 20% (half of your 40%) — did, in fact, pay taxes at one time.

Other people having income and not paying taxes would include children and teenagers, and of course, the very wealthy who manage to avoid taxes.

Now this is scary:

As of 2007, a total of $2.25 trillion of payroll tax money paid into the Social Security and Medicare trust funds had been diverted to general fund use and replaced with government IOUs. In effect, the trust funds are an illusion. Payroll taxes and income taxes go into the same pool of money and are withdrawn from that same pool of money to fund government.

With Obama’s trillions in new debt and his astronomical budget plus health care reform, energy, Afghanistan and Pakistan needing our help soon you have the reasons why Republicans are on are blood pressure medication.   They are more than concerned and democrats should be as well.

Yeah……..I know — and Bush got us in debt to the toon of $848 BILLION on the War in Iraq BEFORE Obama even took office…….seems Republicans prefer to spend money in foreign countries — rather than in America.

Democrats prefer to spend money in America, taking care of Americans…..I suppose that is just a fundamental difference in philosophy.

Many Americans would gladly welcome to have Bush’s deficit back instead of Obama’s trillions and he is not done yet.

I understand democrats prefer to spend money in America.   It’s the Robin Hood mentality.   Sooner or later, the democrats will run out of Peter’s to pay Paul.    Then what?

More Americans would prefer to have Clinton’s surplus back.

Btw…….what happened to that surplus?
