Shock: Pastor, Wife Shot in New Orleans

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Family and friends are trying to wrap their heads around the death of 79-year-old Rev. Olander Cassimere and his wife, Alphathad, who was 77.

The couple, who would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Friday, were fatally shot over the weekend at their home in New Orleans, where Mr. Cassimere was a reverend in the 9th ward. Police say they have leads, and don’t believe the elderly couple were the intended victims, reports WWL.

Explained Police Chief Warren Riley: "Clearly, these two individuals were absolutely innocent. The person that we believe was the target was not there. This type of murder on any day would be shocking — two elderly people who clearly didn’t deserve this, in any way — and certainly on Mother’s Day makes it even more shocking."

This is more than shocking — it’s disturbing, heartbreaking and infuriating.

This is quite sad. We need to teach empathy and compassion. I am horrified at news stories I have heard lately. Until we educate and help people more of this thing will occur. It is ignorance and hopelessness that drive some to crime.

I agree SG. Unfortunately this could be one of 2 things. One being wrong place and the wrong time, or 2, someone may have make a bad error in the address. That is if the police’s assumptions are correct and they were not the intended victims. We need to teach people that there is no need in killing. That it does more harm than good. I also hate stories like this.

My heart and prayer go out to the family and their church.  It really saddens me to see New Orleans getting worse and worse.  Violence has been taking over this great city and it breaks my heart.
