The estranged wife of Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi publicly announced that she is divorcing her 72-year-old billionaire husband after years of turning a blind eye.

Veronica Lario, 52, grew particularly peeved that her husband, who’s undergone plastic surgery to appear younger, attended the 18th birthday of a beautiful blonde model in Naples and bought her a gold necklace. Noemi Letizia is reportedly a former beauty queen and owner of a cosmetic shop. Her father is a friend and business partner of Berlusconi. "I am a friend of the [girl’s] father and nothing more," Berlusconi said.

Several publications have statements from Lario that blast her husband’s attempt to seduce the young woman, the BBC reports.

"That’s enough, I cannot remain with a man who consorts with minors," Lario was quoted saying in La Republica. "I read in the papers about how he has been hanging around a minor — because he must have known her before she was 18 — and how she called him ‘Grandpa’ and about their meetings in Rome and Milan."

"This is no longer acceptable. How can I stay with such a man?" La Stampa quoted her as saying.

The Prime Minister is fuming at the recent allegations. "Veronica must apologize publicly — and I don’t know if that will be enough," Mr. Berlusconi said in an interview with the Italian daily newspaper, BBC reports.

This isn’t the first time their tumultuous relationship has made headlines. In 2007, Lario demanded and received an apology from her husband after he allegedly made passes at two attractive women. In January 2007, a former showgirl and model was at the center of controversy when Berlusconi was quoted: "If I weren’t married, I would marry you immediately." On May 8, 2008, Berlusconi appointed this woman, Maria Carfagna, as minister for equal opportunity in his Cabinet.

Lario and Berlusconi met in 1980 when he saw her perform topless in a Milan theater. They wed in 1990 and have three grown children together. For the last decade, the two have been living apart, according to reports.
