Soldier Accused of Killing 5 Not Dead, in Custody

The soldier suspected of shooting five comrades did not commit suicide and is being questioned.
By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Previous reports claimed that a U.S. soldier who opened fire at an American base in Baghdad killed himself, but the army has not clarified that the alleged gunman — who was at "stress clinic" — is alive and has been taken into custody. Officials released little information on the shooting, other than that five soldiers were killed and that they are saddened by the news.

Said U.S. spokesman Col. John Robinson, according to NBC News: "Anytime we lose one of our own, it affects us all." He continued, "Our hearts go out to the families and friends of all the service members involved in this terrible tragedy."

How many of these soldiers were told they were going after Bin Laden to be thrown into Iraq in a war that was made on lies and greed. What this must do to their mind. Seeing death and destruction everyday. Bring them home. Lets repair America and the damage done by Chenney/ Bushco ( sorry Georgia it works so well) It is time to let Iraq heal itself and for us to move toward a future.

SG…I am going to ask this question…What if this soldier got a letter from his wife breaking it off with him, not b/c of his deployment but just because, would that still be the war’s fault?  There is so much that men and women find out about when they are on deployment that I am shocked more dont go "postal"…I am glad they dont and its a shame he felt it necessary to shoot those who were trying to help him but his unit wanted him there and I am still not sure how he got a weapon in considering weapons were not permitted inside the building…

There’s still "more" to this story.   Obama will soon realize that if we pull all of our troops out too soon, the Iraqi people will once again be in danger.

During GWB’s Presidency, the policy was… we will not leave Iraq until the Iraqis ask us .  That has not happened.  I can’t imagine why they would want Americans gone.  Our soldiers have rebuilt roads, bridges, hospitals, hotels.  They even rebuilt a much improved zoo and secured animals for it.    Just recently, and for the first time, 300 women were trained as police officers.  I believe John McCain was right when he said it would be many years before all Americans leave Iraq.  The rebuilding still goes on as does the training of Iraqi military.

As for President Obama, he seems to have much respect for General Petraeus and his military expertise, and the General does not want to leave Iraq.

I agree, Maggie.   Let us hope that President Obama will rely heavily on General Petraeus for guidance.

And if I may, add to Deber’s statement above:   "…..will once again be in danger" and the threat of terrorism will be closer to American soil in short order.

My son served proudly in Iraq and says he’d go again. He says the Iraq people he met are grateful to the U.S.

Laura, thank you for posting that your son served in Iraq and that he would go again.   I believe many of our troops feel the same way.   President Obama told the world that the United States made a difference in Iraq.  We need to finish the job to secure the safety of those Iraqis  who back the United States during this war otherwise they will be killed or tortured by the rebels.

I thought you said we made the Iraqi’s so safe — now it seems you are saying the Iraqis aren’t safe at all?

MK, what happens is that if the United States pulls out early all those who supported the United States and their undying efforts to provide some semblance of democracy there will be the targets of the rogue religious groups who did not support the United States.   After the U. S. pulls out, they will only be too happy to kill and mutilate them along with their loved ones for wanting a better life.

Please MK, do some reading in your spare time.   I believe if you do, you will understand that pulling out too soon leaves them vulernable to the enemy they have been fighting all along.

You know, deber B — maybe GWB should have thought of that before we went into Iraq.   Did he learn nothing from Vietnam?

Oh…….whoops, that’s right he was busy partying while other Americans were losing their lives in Vietnam.   Hmmm……I see a patern.

You might help your cause if you lifted yourself into the present administration.   Harping on George Bush the way you democrats do is old fodder.

I don’t need any help with my cause.   The present administration is left to pick up the pieces that George Bush left the country in……….that’s not harping, that’s just FACT.
