DNC 'Survivor' Ad Pokes Fun at Republican Party (Video)

In ‘Survivor: GOP Edition’ 16 Republicans compete to win ‘the heart and soul of the GOP.’ Tribe members include: Sarah Palin, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh.

In the wake of Arlen Specter’s party shift, is the Democratic Party feeling the slightest bit overconfident?

A new video parodying the hit reality television show "Survivor" — and sponsored by the Democratic National Committee — insists the Republican Party is in need of a leader, or members may continue to leave their island.

The ad starts off with a quote from Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe, who likened moderate Republicans to participants on "Survivor" — the same contestants who ostracize fellow members and cast them off. "Being a Republican moderate sometimes feels like being a cast member of ‘Survivor’ — you are presented with multiple challenges, and you often get the distinct feeling that you’re no longer welcome in the tribe," Snowe wrote in an op-ed for The New York Times.

The video goes through 16 Republicans competing to win "the heart and soul of the GOP." The 16 Republicans include:

Mitt Romney, John Boehner, Sarah Palin, Karl Rove, Mark Sanford, Jeb Bush, Eric Cantor, John McCain, Bobby Jindal, John Cornyn, Mike Huckabee, Dick Cheney, Mitch McConnell, Michael Steele, Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh.

"Outwit. Outplay. Outlast. Survivor: GOP Edition" even has the iconic "Survivor" jingle, emblem and exotic wildlife …

Lotus, I’m afraid I don’t understand your point.  You start out sounding like you think poorly of this little stunt, but then you go on to name a bunch of Republican/Fox News fumbles; are you saying that this ad is no worse than those blunders, or do you really not know that the all those other things are Republican gaffs?

No, I was "attempting" to say that I really loved this.  That the democrats do things so much better than the republicans.  I guess I did not make my point clear enough.  It was clear when I wrote it in my mind.

Someone wrote that it seemed rather peculiar that the Democratic Party would be running ads spoofing the GOP in a non-election cycle and it was perhaps a "waste of money".  Perhaps.

However, the Democratic Party is very lucky to have Obama as the leader of their party …. otherwise they would have lost the last election.  He is a charismatic leader of charm and whit.  He is a lost cause on economic issues but people listen to what they want to hear … and so far they are hearing that the economy is turning around.  We can only hope.

But what if Obama had not become a Senator on the fast track to the Presidency?  Who else on the Democratic side of the aisle could have excited not only the African American community but many others who wanted to be part of history.  President Obama continues to be very well liked by the majority of the public;  but, his programs are beginning to wear people out and their support is dimming.

Again, the Dems should take this time to run their spoof ads.  They probably will not get the chance by the time the next election comes around.  After all, who do that have of consequence except for the President?  All others are   Who and Whom.

OMG!  That was Brilliant.

Creative, Entertaining and Funny.  All the things the Right are incapable or understanding and recreating.  You know, like the Half-Hour Comedy Hour.  Oh my, just the name alone had me in stitches.  NOT!

Yes, interesting discussion.  Just 2 quick thoughts:  "Silence equals Consent".  When we don’t speak up about wrongs, they continue.  2)  "Government"  is the largest "corporation" of all don’t you think?  When it is ‘corrupt’, we ALL suffer.   That’s why ‘capitalism’  (privately owned, smaller, in principle than government) is better.  At least if it grows to the breaking point, it doesn’t take down everything and everyone.    My feeling is,  I want to determine my OWN path, not Obama’s, not some government bureaucrat, who thinks they know what’s good for me.  Right now that feels like BOTH parties.  Have a good day.

See, the concept was funny. The execution… not funny. Just kind of sad and bitter. And Democrats have no reason to be bitter right now, they have Congress, the White House, and a Supreme Court Justice to appoint.

Dorothy-

You are right however it’s strange that there is this bitterness considering Congress, White House etc..It’s going to back fire on them. No one likes a hater.
