The Taliban successfully struck out against Afghanistan’s women’s right movement Sunday when they assassinated one of the nation’s leading activists, Sitara Achakzai.

Achakzai was reportedly standing outside her house in Kandahar when two men on a motorbike drove up, fired shots and sped away. The Taliban later took full responsibility for the attack.

This isn’t the first time Achakzai found herself in extremists’ cross-hairs. She was injured in a suicide attack at a Kandahar government building two weeks ago. Her friends urged her to leave the country, but Ms. Achakzai insisted on staying in Afghanistan. Yesterday was the first time she had returned home since the suicide attack, according to the Independent.

As Achakzai’s colleagues and allies mourned her death, Wenny Kusuma, the director of the United Nations Development fund for Women in Afghanistan, said the assassination speaks volumes about Afghanistan’s deteriorating situation: “This cold-blooded assassination puts in question the direction that Afghanistan is heading. There is no respect for the rule of law.”

yeah DeB…they couldn;t even confront her by standing still—-they had to ‘speed by’ with faces covered…..they must have been afraid of her!  She must have been doing a good job!

No respect for the rule of law and certainly not for women! If they let women become free, who would they have to push around then? They need to keep their women under control. Afghanistan has a LONG way to go! I am so sorry this woman was assassinated and I agree with DeBurca… such cowards!

Wonder how these men would feel if every time they didn’t agree with basic rights of women, they were castrated.  Harsh, I know but at least they would still be alive unlike a lot of these poor women.

Expected—if Georgie hadn’t had his little war in Iraq these cowards and religious extremists would have been a thing of the past—now, however, they’re about to control a goodly part of Pakistan with its nukes and of course parts of Afghanistan.  We had them totally beaten and now look what we have—a disaster in the making. The Bushies have a lot to answer for and this woman’s death is one of many.

To say that Bush has this woman’s death on his hands is beyond delusional. The Taliban and extremist groups are and have been that region of the world as well as right here in America.

Obama thinks that there are "moderate" extremists that can be "communicated" with. No such thing. To even begin to think that sitting down with these murders will change anything is folly.

They want Americans dead period. They want anyone that is not of their religion, even those that are, but do not meet their standards…dead. Women are of no consequence to them.

Beware America, to be seen as weak will invite the worst that they have to offer. They see America as a Nation of weak women, and will not hesitate to strike…Obama and his bowing only strengthens that image.

Kelly, I will post my outrage at her senseless death and also as the BDS, that of course reared its vitriol. I can’t add anything to your well thought post…except, those that think their are moderates in the Taliban, and we can negotiate, and we can “soften the hearts” of the man-made disasterists…but in actually, this incident is a clear, shining example of what women and western values are thought of in that part of the world. They are to be destroyed by gun or suicide vest (or jet into a building). Follow their law/their faith, or die.

Yes Mary, it is the one big lie that will endanger us all before it is done. Anyone that doubts this only needs to look up the 12th Imam to see what they are told to believe. They could care less about what we “feel” what we “say” what we “intend”. They are told to kill us and that pretending or lying in the process is acceptable. They will say whatever it is that we want to hear, all the while they plan our destruction.

I am amazed, that yet again, Americans (women???) blame the United States for the cultural misogyny of Shar’ia. They stone women to death there as well!!! Shar’ia and honor killings predate western civilization!!! Get a grip folks…the CIA, Ronald Reagan, or Jimmy Carter did not kill that woman…a culture that sees women as property did.

It is so sad Mary…this Pavlovic response to blame America. It reminds me of the beaten woman syndrome where the woman blames herself instead of her attacker.

They had better educate themselves and quickly to what Shar’ia law will bring with it. There will be no rehab or anger management for these men…it is their religious right to do so. But they will hide behind their devisive political mumbo-jumbo and ignore the truth.

It is sickening…ding ding ding….let the slobbering begin…

Kelly:  …this Pavlovic response to blame America.

I’ve never seen it so bad…  or did I not pay attention in the 60’s and 70’s when the flags were being burned, and the Bill Ayers and Charles Mansons of the world were having their heyday.

I’m enjoying the exchange between you and Mary, insightful comments.

Marjorie, like so many…we didn’t believe that the majority of Americans would be so stupid. At that time, families were more intact, people graduated high school, college was a goal…Americans were more in touch with reality.

Since then, the entitied have become more so. No responsibilities, everyone thinks that they deserve things…not that they have to actually work for things. Our spoiled rotten and emotionally immature majority have now come home to roost.

The things that are being done in the government now, are so beyond common sense and the American way that no one could actually believe that anyone would allow it to happen. Back in the 60’s and 70’s, if these things were brought up, everyone would’ve called you an insane nutcase…well…look what has happened….and they are still trying to call us insane nutscases….
