UN Delegates Walk Out After Ahmadinejad's Anti-Israeli Speech

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inspired a protest at the United Nations this morning by blasting Israel as illegitimate.
Speaking at the international body’s conference on racism, Ahmadinejad took aim at Israel, a nation he’s long used as a whipping post.
Said Ahmadinejad, "The Security Council made it possible for that illegitimate government to be set up. For 60 years, this government was supported by the world. Many Western countries say they are fighting racism; but in fact support it with occupation, bombings and crimes committed in Gaza. These countries support the criminals." It’s at the point that Western leaders stood and walked out in protest, the Jerusalem Post reports.
Delegates are gathered in New York to discuss racism and xenophobia, but many leaders, including those from the United States, refused to attend because they feel the forum will be used to smear Israel. And, apparently, they were right.

Here’s another take on this:

I am disappointed that the US did not participate in this event: we should have been there if only to try to make sure something like this wouldn’t happen. I understand that we didn’t attend because of the Israel issue. However, I think that when we decided to avoid the inevitable conflict, we pushed it right out there.
We set the stage for Iran to pull this stunt. We can’t make the situation go away by pretending it doesn’t exist.
I understand your point Nanchan…but it would not have stopped this nutcase. Obama does not need to legitimize these leaders such as Chavez, Castro and AhmaDumbNutJob.
I think that for Obama to be part of the boycott was correct. For the first time, I think that Obama did the right thing. To think that he campaigned on the premise of sitting down without preconditions with this blood thristy nut case was a complete lack of understanding. He is getting quite an "on the job training course".
Please look up the 12th Imam and the beliefs of the Ahmani’s that AHMAdinejad is a follower and extremist leader of. It is beyond scary. They believe that there will be a 12th Imam that will come AFTER Christ returns. They believe this Imam is the true messiah.
But first, BEFORE he can come, the small satan Isreal and the big satan America MUST BE DESTROYED. There is no if and or buts about this. He is building Nuclear capabilities for this end. He does not care if we all perish, as the extremist followers of the 12th Imam will be delivered.
Thank you for your response, Kelly.
Obama doesn’t seem to have his path straight and is selective in his diplomacy agenda: If he could attend the South America conference this weekend, then he should have sent a delegate to the UN. It showed a lack of respect to the UN, and ultimately resulted in a fiasco.
The UN is and was an institution that was founded as a forum for international debate. Without a strong US/European presence there, it became a one sided debate. I stand by my post.
Nanchan, I understand your point.
It does appear that the UN has not been much of a power in world affairs. Do you think that by boycotting, the US and other countries sent a message? Do you think that Ahmadinejad would have behaved any differently had they been there?
I really haven’t any faith in the UN. It seems to be a stage wherein talk is cheap.
EEEHGADS!!! WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT ? WE ARE HEADING FOR MEGADO BEFOR WE EVEN GET THERE!
LORD GOD BLESS US ONE AND ALL!
PEOPLE SPLUH
"Things are changing!"
Yes indeed. Anti-semitism is on the rise in the US, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and other countries. Obama has voiced support for the Saudi initiative, which will divide — and destroy — Israel. Western media is willing to print any absurd, unverified, unverifiable story about supposed Israeli oppression of palestinians, including outright lies (for instance, the story during Operation Cast Lead that Israel shelled a UN school — not true!). America is bowing to Saudi Arabia, and befriending Iran. Iran is building up nukes, and has clearly voiced their intention of destroying Israel. The Obama administration has made it clear that a preemptive strike against Iran will not be tolerated.
Yes, indeed, things are changing. The world is sentencing Israel to death, and the US is supporting the sentence while Iran works to enforce it.
It has nothing to do with anti semitism and everything to do with fairness. The world is not sentencing Israel to death either but many are wondering how Israel feels it has the right oppress Palestinians, which they do. America has been the defender of Israel to the point that I think that they don’t care to give an inch when it comes to a decent compromise…..they seem to want it all.
