Was Nancy Pelosi Right? How Much Did CIA Keep From Congress?

Was Nancy Pelosi actually onto something when she claimed the CIA "misled" Congress about what interrogation techniques were being used on terror suspects?
CIA Director Leon E. Panetta came out and told lawmakers that the agency "concealed significant actions" from Congress, leading some to conclude that the spy agency has downright lied. Meanwhile, President Obama is in Italy today pow-wowing with world leaders on climate change and trade. But first, back in the U.S., the explosive spy news today is that Panetta told the House Intelligence Committee about some things the CIA may have kept from Congress on classified matters, according to Democrats, dating back from 2001 until June of this year. We don’t know exactly what those matters are, but many believe they have to do with interrogation techniques used on terror suspects. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been accusing the CIA of lying to Congress on this issue, specifically in its recollection of what it told Congress in a 2002 briefing. In a June 26 letter to Panetta, Democrats — who are up in arms about the few bad apples who may be poisoning the agency — said that the agency had "misled members" of Congress for eight years about the classified matters, which the letter did not disclose.
"This is similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods," said a June 26 letter to Panetta from committee Democrats, made public Wednesday by Rep. Rush D. Holt, D-NJ, one of the signers.
Even though some in Congress want the intelligence committees to get more expansive briefings on covert actions, the White House said Wednesday it would veto any bill trying that. The provision would raise "significant executive privilege concerns," according to a White House policy statement, reports The Wall Street Journal.
But Obama has the economy and climate change — and not the CIA — on his agenda today. He’s joining other leaders of the world’s leading economies, as well as leaders from some developing countries, in L’Aquila, Italy, today for the G-8 summit, and will chair a meeting on global warming. Members are seeking huge cuts in emissions by 2050. Obama has also met with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has had a very public falling out with his wife, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, among others.
