Nancy Pelosi's Plane | 03/12/2009 9:05 am

Press Defend Pelosi From 'Petulant' Plane Problem (Video)

Press and pundits slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday for her alleged misuse of military planes. Today, however, some are coming to her defense.

The Defense Department may not be saying much about the matter these days, but Pelosi’s office issued a statement, refuting several charges made by Judicial Watch, and pointing to sites that debunked the 2007 charges. ABC News says the DoD information obtained by Judicial Watch "doesn’t seem to prove the organization’s allegation that Pelosi has made ‘unprecedented demands’ for the flights. In fact, it appears that Pelosi uses military aircraft less often than her predecessor, former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert."

Media Matters also blasted Judicial Watch for even bringing up "the lifeless controversy," which harks back to 2007. "That’s when frustrated Republicans, aided by the press, completely manufactured the claim that the new Speaker of the House was going all diva on the Pentagon and demanding use of huge military planes to fly her and her pals around the country," Media Matters says.

Other blogs took aim at FOX News for having a party with the Pelosi news.

From News Hounds:

"Bill O’Reilly could barely conceal his glee, as seen in the discussion with Dennis Miller … in which Miller ‘joked’ … ‘the fact that somebody thinks this empty-headed Pashmina mannequin has to be guarded from people will show you how absolutely mad the world has gone.’"

Do you think Pelosi abused her military plane privileges? You can read the DoD documents here and decide for yourself.

Too soon to say!!!

The net gain from when Obama was elected is still very negative!   The market wants to rebound but it seems that everytime Obama makes an announcement about plans to  fund "stimulation of the  economy" by taxing investors the market shows a distinct Bearish pessimism.   I’ll believe in a recovery when "our" 401k is back to where it was in November 2008!

So true deber………Wait until the 2nd stimulous package is introduced…it’s only been  couple of weeks since he signed the first one and already there’s fear that it isn’t enough.

You know DeBurca, if you would actually start reading something other than the crap liberal newspapers you would find the real reasons for many things!

Dow Back Above 7000 as Win-Streak Hits Three: More Upside Likely, Jon Najarian Says Posted Mar 12, 2009 05:23pm EDT by Aaron Task in Investing, Biotech Related: ^dji, ^gspc, PFE, DNA, CVTX, MRK, SGP Stocks jumped Thursday, pushing their winning streak to three days, the first time that’s happened since late January.

The Dow rose 3.5% to 7170, while the S&P and Nasdaq each gained 4%. The S&P has now risen 11% since March 9, its best three days since November, Bloomberg reports.

Jon Najarian, co-founder of optionMONSTER.com, says the gains are likely to continue, at least in the short term for several reasons, including:

Najarian also discounted the idea — expressed here earlier today by Gary Shilling — that excitement over a "bottom" means sentiment is too optimistic, suggesting most investors remain very dour about the potential for sustainable gains.

That said, the option trader and "Fast Money" regular isn’t discounting the potential for a retest of recent lows. In fact, he’s expecting it at some point down the road, but for now is betting on more short-term upside.

Beau, after listening to Thom Hartman today on Air America, it sounds like there may be a book coming out charging Cheney with directing the CIA to make ‘hits’ on people he considered a ‘threat to nat’l security’. If that is the case, looking forward WITHOUT looking back at the same time would be quite dangerous for this country. If we do not have accountability they will rewrite history and we’ll go through the whole horrible thing again in 50 years (or less, considering the short attention span of Americans these days).

DeBurca, let us hope that the book is well researched, unbiased and factual.   If it is not, it will be a novel and interesting reading but by no means "history."

If a book announcement appears only Air America it is doubtful whether the book will be either unbiased or important.

Beau, the democratic congress delayed the omnibus bill until after the election with the intent of easy passage of added pork with the new administration.   Calling this "old business and actually a Bush bill" flies in the face of reality!   Pay attention, please.

shirley:   …lets clean house people!

I’m for that 100%.  Vote in no incumbents in 2010.  That would be the quickest way to get rid of Pelosi.

As far as take, take, take is concerned, she’s already talking up a second Porkulus Bill.  Must be somemore mice that need saving in California.

Oh Gawd, you’ve got Harry?  Well, we’ve got Barney Frank here in Massachusetts, and if anyone needs to retire, it’s Barney.  We’ve got John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, too.  Massachusetts is a veritable breeding ground for libs…   Hawvid (Harvard) you know.

Reid needs to go—but you all will not replace many—your in a small minority and just don’t recognize it. :-)  As for Pelosi—I could care less.

Beau:  your in a small minority and just don’t recognize it.

Everything will depend on the economic climate in 2010.  If things are looking up, the Dems will be re-elected, and that will include Mr. Fannie Mae himself, Barney Frank.  However…  if the opposite is true, the attitude will be anything but a Dem.  Politics are quite predictable, after all.  The economy put Obama in, and the economy will take him out.
