Last night marked a special occasion at the United Nations in New York City: “Welcome to Gulu,” an exhibition and benefit art sale for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Criminal Court Trust Fund for Victims (TFV). Generously underwritten by ARTOC and its chairman, Shafik Gabr, and curated by Ross Bleckner, “Welcome to Gulu” exhibited 200 paintings created by human trafficking victims plagued by rebel groups in northern Uganda. The artists, all victims of modern-day slavery, are former children soldiers and abducted females. Click through this slide show for photographs of some of the special guests who attended the event.
