Wesleyan Suspect Stephen Morgan Turns Self In After Johanna Justin-Jinich Shooting

Wesleyan University students can breathe a sigh of relief, because Stephen Morgan, the man accused of shooting student Johanna Justin-Jinich, has turned himself in to police.

A disguised Morgan allegedly walked into a campus bookstore on Wednesday and fatally shot Justin-Jinich, an ex-friend who had filed an aggravated harassment complaint against him. Then, after the deed was done, Morgan left the scene, but didn’t run.

The New York Times points out that Morgan, who was wearing a wig at the time of the shooting, meandered outside the crime scene and even gave his name and number to the police. It was hours later that police realized they had missed their man, who was by that time long gone. As the story unfolded, however, Morgan apparently had a change of heart and last night went to a convenience store, called the cops and was arrested. He is being held on $10 million bond.

His family has vowed to stand by his side, but may have been instrumental in his actions: His sister pleaded yesterday, "Turn yourself in right now to avoid any law-enforcement agency, wherever you are, to avoid any further bloodshed. We love you, we will support you in every way and we don’t want anyone else to get hurt.”

Morgan also reportedly had a journal in which he railed against Jewish people.

Ok, you want to bet he pleads "not guilty"!!!!  What well known attorney will he get for his case?

First one I have been able to comment. Since I live in the area this happened in I wanted to post my view. I am so shocked at this. I am also amazed he was so brazen as to walk into a convenience store and call the cops. Why not just go to a police station?

Beth, I also did not know he had milled around the crime scene for awhile and actually talked to police after the shooting.  That just boggles the mind.  I’m sure everyone in the area has been on pins and needles since this happened.  I don’t understand the convenience store bit either.  But at least he is in custody now.

When he turned himself in, he killed himself. But unlike most suicides, he will be killing himself for 60+ years.

Too bad this lad didn’t take a class with old George Zinkhan at the University of George ere he embarked on his perlious blood fueled journey.

Oh yes. And yes we were on pins and needles. We didn’t know if he left the area or state.

My son is a junior at Wesleyan and lives right by the bookstore.  When I sent him off to college, I had my fears about campus shooting sprees, but I hardly thought it was a realistic fear until this happened.  I can’t even imagine what this girl’s parents are going through right now.  I must say that the university handled the situation in the absolute best manner and kept us parents informed every step of the way.  The police department also spared nothing in keeping our kids safe.  Words can’t express my gratitude to them.

My heart breaks seeing this poor girl’s photo. May she rest in peace…My thoughts and prayers will go out for her grieving family and friends.
