What conspiracy theory or rumor swirling around swine flu are you subscribing to?

It’s the media weirdly sensationalizing to draw viewers. Maybe they miss the Bush-Era Orange Alerts meant to get you bug-keyed and heart racing on the edge of your sofa, clutching duct tape and whimpering.  Do I hear the ‘Jaws’ theme playing in the background?

Yesterday I heard (haven’t had time to confirm) a doctor say that yearly throughout the world, there are on average 36,000 deaths from regular flu per year.  Since the media is driven by fear and controversy it seems like they are having a good time with this.  Definitely not a conspiracy, but they take important information and sensationalize it.

i don’t know what to think myself. having a compromised immune system i take all illnesses as a threat. i was almost hospitalized last year with pneumonia and that was just what was going around. then this year my kids got shots and earlier in the year my grandson had the nasal version. everybody got sick worse than me. i finally got it, but not as bad as they did. weird. they don’t want to get flu shots again next year (the only reason i didn’t was b/c they were offered free at the boys and girls club thanksgiving weekend and my grandson was having surgery the week after and i figured somebody should be well just in case). nobody got sick until late january. but i still think the shot either compromised their systems or didn’t do a darn thing.

oops, hit the return key. what i am doing is putting the sign up i usually put in winter on my door "if you are sick please come back when you are well or wear a mask and wash your hands if you HAVE to approach!" when i go to the store i use a wipe to clean the cart and i’m careful not to be up in ppl’s faces at anytime. i might invest in some face masks for myself for going out in crowded public. there are a bunch of ppl right now that i know are sick. so something is going around anyway!

Hi,

For your immune system, invest in Pycnogenol and Lacto Ferrin, they are both immune boosters.  A couple of weeks ago my family and I flew back to the UK from Miami.  Husband, son and daughter all caught a bad sniffly cold on the plane back (my husband thinks it came through the air nozzle above him because he had it at full blast).

I take my Pycnogenol and Lacto Ferrin every day and had no cold whatsover, and I work in a reception area where germs walk through the door every day! I am hoping it will keep me safe if the swine flu comes through the door as well!

Hope this helps you.

Best wishes,

Katrina

hi katrina, are these OTC? i have no health insurance to speak of. i will look around for them. somebody gave me that energon C in little powder pouches to put in tea, water or OJ. i used them all thru that month that everybody got sick and i didn’t get as sick. i think they are MASSIE vitamin C doses with other vitamins. then i ran out and out of money. so i will definitely invest in all of those when i get paid friday. thanx for reminding me. it certainly cannot hurt!

I think it is just the poor conditions that exists on the large hog farms outside of D.F. jointly owned by American and Mexican pork purveyors. The last report I heard was that they are being tested jointly by the CDC, Mexican and Canadian government researchers with scientists on site looking for the source for the virus. CA

I think they are probably exaggerating it to take our minds off the credit crunch and the dreaded global warming (another theory I don’t subscribe to).

Another ploy to keep us worrying on all fronts - health, economy, gas prices, job security, retirement, etc.

God forbid we take a deep breath, relax, smell the flowers and enjoy the sunshine!

May my pet vampire bat PQQP on the swine that first caused this flu.

Why must there be a conspiracy theory for every major illness or event? Flu happens no matter what the source. You can protect yourself by washing frequently, using a saline nasal spray to irrigate your sinuses and staying away from crowds. I avoid buffets and salad bars during cold and flu outbreaks because some people refuse to contain their illness at home

Chris, I happen to agree with you.   Remember the SARS virus?   This appears to be cyclical as we are certain to face different viruses.   Avoiding buffets and salad bars is very important.   Too many "unknown hands" crossing the food from the kitchen to the customers.

I do think this is may be the time to eat in….take your lunch to work…..know what you are eating and who prepared it!
