Ah, yes.  Anyone who has had to spend a couple of hours on the phone for computer tech support trying to understand through a thick accent talking to "Frank" or "Joe" in India or Columbia curses the day they sent those jobs overseas.  I had a long discussion with one of them about our jobs being outsourced and, of course, they defended it righteously because they lives have so improved……but at our sacrifice, unfortunately.

I spent 30 years working my way up through the ranks to the top of my field as an animation designer….one of the few women in the industry, only to lose it to seven other countries.    Before that I lost my work as an animator to Japan.  I am just one of the many who had to re-invent themselves in my late 50’s in "entry level" positions making a third of my previous income.   Never to make up for what I lost.  But, eventually, I was lucky enough to find  work in another field that is near and dear to me…..working with autistic children.   Much more rewarding.

Namastae.

What news matters to me? The news behind the news. Too much news these days contains a high percentage of spin, in content or in arrangement of the story. Too much news reads as if it should be in the op-ed section. I want to know what’s really going on, not what someone thinks sells in Peoria, Riyadh, or elsewhere.

News that matter to me?  I haven’t heard it yet, I want to hear how there are more jobs than there are people to fill it.  I want to hear that crime is down and inflation is at an all time low.  I want to hear how gas companies who have raped us at the gas pumps are going to make ammends by giving free gas for the next year.  I want to hear how somebody went out of their way to help somebody else out.  So that is why I don’t watch the news… can’t take the bad news anymore :-(

NEWS THAT MATTERS TO ME: NEWSPAPERS, THE ORLANDO SENTINEL ALMOST TRIPLED THE COST OF A SUBSCRIPTION TO THE PAPER. CRAZY, CONSIDERING THE COST OF THEIR ADVERTISING IS DEPENDENT ON CIRCULATION, YOU’D THINK THEY’D WANT TO KEEP THEIR SUBSCRIPTION CUSTOMERS, AND CIRCULATION NUMBERS HIGH. BUT NO - AS USUAL, BIG BUSINESS THINKS BACKWARDS. TICKS ME OFF.

I too, am very affected by this, in fact horribly disgusted… and stinking mad, but I have no idea what one can do about it. I guess it’s just another thing we will have to adjust to, and learn to live with. Eventually I cool down about it until someone like you, or Kagan K, brings up the subject again. (Now there I go. I was hoping this was going to be a nice quiet, peaceful Saturday morning; but, thanks for the comment, anyway).

Hey LR

I’m so sorry for disrupting your peaceful Sat. am.  Re: Your Post:  Are you referring to Orlando Sentinel’s lack of loyalty to long time customers - or trying to speak to a ‘so called’, "Customer Service Rep" you can’t understand?

I hope its BOTH.  I’m not sure WHAT we can do about it - but I KNOW, by getting it out there via various media - we can change it.  NOTHING is more powerful, then people joining together and speaking out.  We just need to organize.

Are you IN

Thanks LC - You can count me "IN" on both,  with priority on the dreaded Customer Rep.

This is the perfect place to find all your regional media outlets - and email them from this site:

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/

I’m presently filing complaints against a doctor who’s "office"refuses (for weeks!!!!) to call people back for critically needed health issues’ appointments who are referred in by other physicians, and the media needs this info. Such exclusivity does not belong in medicine, and be it known such doctors are in charge of their staff so this prima dona knows what is going on (he needs to go back to Peru and work hard for a living).

C JAY: I CAN’T HEAR U! MY KEYBOARD HAS BEEN STUCK FOR SEVERAL DAYS, BUT REALLY - DON’T YOU HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO WRITE ABOUT?

I apologize - I just dashed past your post (I use a screen reader) - sorry. I understand (warn us!). ;-)) Tripped myself up didn’t I.  And, yes I do - I’m editing hopefully, the penultimate draft of a 230 pg biography of a renown medical scientist that I appear to be one of few who ever wrote his life! So, yes, I do.

C jay: Thank you for your reply.  Spent many hours and 4 phone calls to India to resolve problem.  Hopefully, it is permanent.  RE: My retort, yes you do have something to write about.  I read your attached NY Times article, very interesting - but not surprizing.  I think we have years of new revelations coming re: previous administrations deceit.

I saw a picture in the paper of a 90 year old man sitting on a curb in Galveston.  He had a tearful face.  Across the street, huge trees were being cut down.  He remembered his dad planting them when he was a child.  When Ike decided to visit Texas, trees and other vegetation stood in salt water for many days.   The trees cannot not be revived.  Several hundred will face the chain saw.

At some point in all of our lives, Mother Nature will decide it is time to redecorate, and there’s not a thing we can do about it.

No surprise there C jay. Did you hear he has ask for his security to be upped?

The amount of money that criminal is extracting from us, the U.S., daily, hourly, I’m surprised his anything would be "upped." Perhaps the far right extrimist blog machine that this will set off will calm down until this is set in stone. (We’ve been talking about the tirade that goes on here, ad nauseum, and most have decided to start totally ignoring them.

Better than perpetuating more hate, doncha think.
