Ah, yes.  Anyone who has had to spend a couple of hours on the phone for computer tech support trying to understand through a thick accent talking to "Frank" or "Joe" in India or Columbia curses the day they sent those jobs overseas.  I had a long discussion with one of them about our jobs being outsourced and, of course, they defended it righteously because they lives have so improved……but at our sacrifice, unfortunately.

I spent 30 years working my way up through the ranks to the top of my field as an animation designer….one of the few women in the industry, only to lose it to seven other countries.    Before that I lost my work as an animator to Japan.  I am just one of the many who had to re-invent themselves in my late 50’s in "entry level" positions making a third of my previous income.   Never to make up for what I lost.  But, eventually, I was lucky enough to find  work in another field that is near and dear to me…..working with autistic children.   Much more rewarding.

Namastae.

What news matters to me? The news behind the news. Too much news these days contains a high percentage of spin, in content or in arrangement of the story. Too much news reads as if it should be in the op-ed section. I want to know what’s really going on, not what someone thinks sells in Peoria, Riyadh, or elsewhere.

Women, children, the most vulnerable in any society. Preposterous. It’s here, too, terribly. We just need an open press to see how serious things are right here at home. So far, there’s been no retraction of the loss of freedom from the last 9 years.

Sounds today like Cheney will take flight to the hills of Afghanistan, or hire Blackwater to live with him, which I’m sure is already in place.

Yanow, does anyone else ever wonder why all these blokes that either fight for other nations, take care of those in other nations (Bono, Oprah, et al for example) don’t clean up America first so we can then move on to help others with greater strength, health, and abilities?

PS Problem in the US is that our "news" is laden with crime, accidents, and other horrendous acts designed to keep us fearful, onguard, mistrusting, and bigoted. I live in an area with the longest prison sentences, yet it goes on and on — of course! CJ here hasn’t read the data.

Incidentally, from the news late last night, the POTUS is being forced (IMHO) to examine "illegalities" of the past … our nation’s administrations have turned a blind-eye to serious violations of our Law, to "preserve" former presidents. That is wrong, and the crimes will continue until independent counsels are appointed, and "we the people" have a say.

At the same time, if one reads the Constitution, this is our nation, we are all responsible for what others do, and we are all directly affected by the malfeaseance of others. Thus, I agree with Obama on one early point he made, which nevertheless does not serve to exonerate the former horrific Constituitions violations of the Hedge’s Administraition, we are all responsible for permitting such to happen. Each and all of us of legal age, and healthy minds. We permitted this nightmare, and we also permitted Nixon, Ford, Bush, Reagan, Bushy, Carter, Clinton, et al.

Until we the people speak up and out these crimes against the nation (we the people) will continue, and on a grassroots level, our computers, phones, and televiewing will continue to be monitored. We are, right now, not much better off that those were in Switzerland decades ago, and once again, now. They saw it coming, and they see it coming, again.

It’s time women spoke out against Delta! It was led by an LDS chairman (great guy but) and now the board’s sill perpetuating the "feminine-model" - to limit sizes on their red dress is wholly discriminatory, and we the people must speak up and out. All of us. Women and men.

This is a public company that carries us into the wild blue yonder, and should have the common sense, and intellect, to view all people as equals, minimally.

While I’m at it - if any airline still requires female flight attendants to wear high heels in the terminals, let them speak now, or change their HR regulations! Women are people, too - and more.

C jay,

I don’t know what their hiring criteria is with respect to health, but the odds of anyone who wears a size larger than 18 is not in the best of shape. On the other hand, better clothes are undergoing another size definition, that is, what was size 16 is now a size 12…..or something like that.

I wasn’t aware of the high heel requirement. That’s terrible. Brings to mind the old "We really move our tails for you" ads. If I had my way everyone would wear sane shoes with good arch support and very short heels.

I hear that, Andrea - in re high heels, but the airline’s out of its league in mandating dress sizes; certainly FAA regs in re weight may apply, but again, I’ve seen some far heftier pilots (males) than any of the flight attendants. Ever try pushing one  those full carts against gravity up or down minuscule airway aisles  - that alone must tear up the capillaries in their legs, much less on East-West flights where high level radiation is terrible.

C jay,

It made my legs ache just reading about it. Bring out the "boots"  [removable casts].

I hear where you’re coming from - and I agree, there should be no limitation on dress size. After all, the company itself will prevent the hiring of size 18+ ladies or a physical exam will kill their chances of being hired for the most part.

But once you start putting limitations on such things as dress sizes, where does it end? That the company requires wearing heals at ANY time is insane. But we recognize it for what it’s worth - hot and sexy legs make for more ticket sales. If I had my way everyone would wear Reeboks all day long.
