I must relate a "stupid crook" story I read in the newspaper this AM.
It seems the crook broke into a house by using his ATM card. After he had looted the house he kidnapped a female living in the house. He called the woman’s husband and asked for money. When the police arrived at the home they found the stupid crook’s ATM card still in the door.
30 Minutes later the police arrested the idiot and took the "kidnapped" woman home.
Moral to the story — always know where your ATM card is! :)

The media has been fooling me! Shame on them! There is not a thing wrong with the economy. It isn’t true! Last Thursay, the dog show opened in Reliant Park ( Houston). People from all over the globe arrived with their pets that were entered in the events. Spectators arrived with their pets, too. Some were in strollers with the same sticker price as a Volkswagon Beetle. Others were dressed in $1000 collars. Some had on ballerina skirts. One had a purple sequined cape with " Fabulous Foxy" written on the back. Cute little satin booties on some. Elaborate dog carriers. The owners of these pets did not appear to be in the Imelda or Zha-Zha circle of owners either. Far from it.
If the economy is tanking, Fido and FiFi surely are unaware.

You haven’t been to the dog pounds in CA. No booties, no ballerina skirts, no collars, no clean carriers. Just a card outside the cage with a date when the poor dog will be killed.

C. Hardy, I still think the policeman should not have arrested Dr. Gates. Talking loudly in your own home is not an arrestable offense. . Why did not Sgt. Crowley since no crime was being committed take things with a "grain of salt". I hope this turns into as President Obama said "a teachable moment".
I think both Dr. Gates and Sgt. Crowley overeacted. I am sure that DR. Gates was exhausted after a long flight from China and aggravated about the stuck door.
C. Hardy there are some bad cops and black people have and are disrespected. Sometimes black people jump to conclusions that a person is racist when in realtiy they are just jerks.
I have to shut the wow site down sometimes when certain right wing posters get going. You are sensitive because your husband is a policeman.
Imagine how Michelle Obama feels.
I am sure Michelle Obama feels great - her husband is POTUS - if she didnt want the backlash that comes with it -then she should have asked him not to run. My Husband is a Police Officer and yes I am sensitive to this issue b/c not all cops are bad and not all white cops who have run ins with black americans are racist YET they are called that on almost every occassion. When Obama was sworn in and my husband pulled a black american over the first thing out of this man was "yall crackers wont be able to dot this anymore b/c Obama is President"…this black american was doing 82 in a 60 and was drunk…now Im sorry would you want him speeding down the roads you travel b/c a white cop let him go b/c he was black…I know I dont.
Yes there are bad cops and I never said there wasnt and I have plenty of black cop friends who have been targeted by their own people just b/c they became cops or worse yet I had a ex cop boyfriend who went to MS after Katrina and was going to pull a lady out of her car b/c she had run off the road and her car was leaking gas and she refused to take his black hand to her white hand…he walked away & prayed that her car would not blow up…thankfully there was a white cop with him that was able to pull her out…
I think once the audio tapes are released IF they are ever released Gates should have to apologize - there is a black cop that was there and his own report says that Crowley did not raise his voice during this incident YET they are calling him a liar -black people calling a black cop a liar just b/c he is a cop…it just amazes me.
Starry you think you have to shut down I have to take days away b/c of what some left wing and right wing posters comment in here. I am neither - I comment on how I feel and when both sides get going its a shame but from what I have seen the hate starts from the left and the right instead of backing down they just lash back…
I dont care how tired you are from a long trip - when a police officer asks for ID you need to give him ID that has your address on it - a harvard ID does not from my knowledge have your home address on it - so giving a cop your harvard ID was showing him that you think your better then him b/c you teach at harvard - did Crowley overreact - who knows but I can tell you that just b/c he got arrested does not mean those charges stick, I have seen plenty of cases where they are let go shortly after being arrested for many reasons.
Starry - talking loudly as you put it is not a crime but disobeying an order from law enforcement is…the cop was there to investigate a possible break in he told Gates that and then Gates "talked loudly" to him…and refused to give ID - that is disobeying a direct order.
Thanks for your post C Hardy. I was in downtown earlier today and everyone was setting up for a summer parade. A lot of police men were there and boy were they talking about Obama. The words "I will never for Obama again" were heard over and over again. Obama just lost votes nationwide I am sure.
There are more good cops than bad cops out there. It’s 2009 not 1969. If I could I would get your husband a cup of coffee and thank him for keeping "us" safe. Chin up C Hardy!
T P - Thanks, when it comes to Cops I will be the first to admit when they are wrong - I have seen it….but Sgt Crowley was not wrong - what Obama did was very wrong calling him out like that. This would have all been avoided if Gates would have shown proof he lived there instead of yelling and refusing and then when he finally decided he wanted to show proof he showed a Harvard ID that doesnt have his home addr on it…
What also amazes me is how Obama is dumb-founded over why so many people got upset over what he said - That was another loss of respect for me to him on that one. Yes he did loose a lot of support from Law Enforcement and I can bet most of his Secret Service detail lost respect for him also…Most SS started as Law Enforcement and to hear that said about one of their own when the whole story is not known…man. Just blows my mind.
Chin up and hubby doesnt drink coffee - but he sure loves his sweet tea!!!! :)

You know, I asked the same thing when the video’s were released of rev. wright’s preaching about the whitey’s and gd’ing America!!! Did you see the children in that church who were praising his words? They were jumping up and down…I found this very sad indeed….they leave that church and go to school and carry those words and feelings with them. Is that the kind of message they should have learned. You have sharpton and jackson harming race relations…."What say you’???

It is truly a sad day in America when the leader of the United States fans the flames of racial hatred. Obama, in his speech at the NAACP basically said, though America is racist, sexist and homophobic, you can make it in spite of those white SOB’s attempts to stop you. Wonderful. How inspiring. The NAACP audience erupted in applause. Obama’s condemnation was "red meat" to the liberal, protective of their victim status, organization.
"Make no mistake, the pain of discrimination is still felt in America (applause) by African-American women paid less for doing the same work as colleagues of a different color and a different gender; by La-tin-os made to feel unwelcome in their own country; by Muslim Americans viewed with suspicion simply because they kneel down to pray to their god; by gay dead brothers and sisters still taunted, still attacked, still denied their rights."
Interestingly, Obama’s list of victims did not include Christians and straight white males. This is because it is open season on bashing them. According to liberals, everything wrong in the world is the fault of Christians and straight white males. Case in point, Pulitzer Prize winner Maureen Dowd’s column in the New York Times in which she demonizes white men. Aren’t Obama’s statements in his speech eerily close to the teachings of Rev. Jeremiah Wright who said, "America is controlled by rich white people"?
Mr. Obama, as for the victims in your speech; one of those African American women you claim America has victimized used her money, power and influence to help get you elected. White guys did not blow up the Twin Towers, murdering three thousand Americans. Muslims did. So, excuse me if I give them a second glance in an airport. Only illegal Latinos are unwelcome — just as with every other ethnic group. When an openly gay beauty pageant judge viciously trashes a contestant for humbly saying she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman and much of the media sides with him in ridiculing the woman, it is safe to say America is pretty tolerant of homosexuals. All of Obama’s accusations against America are untrue, divisive and evil.
Does racism exist in America? Of course it does — along with every other sin. But are we a racist country? Absolutely not! Why would Obama want to reinforce such a divisive paradigm? And why did the NAACP so enjoy Obama’s attack on white America?
