It’s happened again!  We have already heard the chatter about Edwards, Sanford and Spitzer.  Have any of you been reading about Steve McNair?  Another very popular man.  Not in politics but in sports.  He arose in fame at Alcorn State as a quaterback with an absolute "golden arm" - he led the Tennessee Titans to their one and only Super Bowl victory.   He had since retired from football.   He was well known in Nashville - donated his time to chairties, especially regarding children.  Donated money to many and helped to raise money for many more.

Now, he is gone.  He was murdered - shot twice in the head and twice in the chest.  He was murdered in a condo in Nashville.  Also dead was his 20 year old girlfriend Sahel Kazemi - she was dead from a single gunshot to the head.  Under her body was a gun she had purchased less than two days before the killings.  The Nashville police feel very comfortable with their ruling of murder-suicide.

The real tragedy to this story.  Steve McNair, 36, was married and the father of three children.  His wife is said to be totally devastated.  But what I find confusing is the fact that this affair had been going on for at least 6 months.  They even traveled together.  She told people that he was going to leave his wife and move in with her.  How could the wife not have known about "the other woman".   And, there were no court records to indicate the McNairs were even considering divorce.  Two days before the murder Kazemi was arrested for DUI and McNair was with her.  He wasn’t charged and was allowed to leave.  He later returned to bail her out.  That night Kazemi went alone to buy the handgun.  Friday night and early Saturday morning, McNair was seen with friends in two Nashville bars.  A witness said McNair arrived at the condo he leased between 1:30 and 2AM - Kazemi’s car was already there.  He was killed sometime in the early morning hours.

So, another man with another woman other than his wife.  Another man with children. Another wasted life.   Is there something in the water? You would think that after reading about these stories - men would learn to keep their pants zipped.

They just don’t get it, do they?   His little 20 year old girlfriend shot him and then herself.   Three  children and a devastated wife left to pick up the pieces.

Well I found out there were four children!  Also found out that she shot him in his sleep.  Boy she must have been mad!  And, according to the report this evening - apparently she positioned herself, before she shot herself, so that her body would fall onto his lap.  How sick is that.

According to friends she had just found out that he had been seeing another woman - not his wife!!!! Boy, the guy really got around.  Again, how could the wife not have known.  My husband says that I have a nose like a bloodhound.  He says I would have sniffed it out!  :)

Sports figures in this culture really get a pass on infidelity, drugs, and messing around. Compare McNair to Sanford. Nothing but encomiums from colleagues on McNair and his talent and generosity…wow, not a word on his messing over his wife, family etc. If McNair actually stuck Kazemi with a Cadillac payment on her waitress salary, cooled off on her moving in with him as she obviously believed was going to happen, and was seeing yet another woman, no wonder she got mad. No excuse for going over the edge, but it just seems many people were simply looking the other way at this relationship. He was apparently very open with her family, going to parties etc. Who knows what really happened but again, do we see a double standard here as compared to other straying husbands? I think so.

It’s not just athletics - when my husband was in pilot training in California years ago you wouldn’t believe the women who would hang around anywhere those guys went.  I think they called them "groupies".  And, they were of all ages.  Also, interesting to note, all of these ‘groupies’ knew when it was payday - then they would show up in droves.  I saw more than one marriage fall apart because of the "straying".  As my husband used to say - it seems no one told some of these guys that you can say no!

And, I agree, there does seem to be a double standard - Sanford vs McNair.  I think we could just call them all "Male Whores".

Gotta agree with Bill Shea (blogger and author of the second comment in the comments section) on this:

What news matters to me? The news behind the news. Too much news these days contains a high percentage of spin, in content or in arrangement of the story. Too much news reads as if it should be in the op-ed section. I want to know what’s really going on, not what someone thinks sells in Peoria, Riyadh, or elsewhere.
