The difference is I find you would be the kind like me to help others. For some it seems pull the ladder up I’m alright. My disdain for republicans is of their own making sadly. Signs saying Dr. Kings dream is our nightmare or to see sites where people are threatening Obama’s life. I did give W. a chance believe it or not. My experiences is that regular folks do better with a democrat in a white house.

SG see when Bush was President I remember all the awful signs at rally’s against him and that turned me off also to those protesters - not every Democrat…I feel for those that see their only way to get somewhere is to make signs like they have - for any President.  I just wonder how it made you feel to see those signs by Dems to Bush?

C the difference is those signs did not have corporate sponsors. These do. Dick Armey is laughing all the way to the bank. Billionaires are using ignorance to buy their bidding. There is a difference.

A society is only as strong as its weakest member. Thus the US is a very weak country at the moment. I for one would be more than willing to pay my FAIR SHARE in taxes to make sure everyone has COMPLETE HEALTH CARE coverage, not just adequate. I guess I am more of a Christian than most because the Golden Rule applies to every aspect of my life. As far as Republicans go, maybe if just one moderate Republican shared a different viewpoint instead of just falling in lock step with the crazy ones like Beck and Limbaugh then you wouldn’t be lumped in with the rest of the goose-stepping morons. FYI I was a republican from 1995 til 2004 when the Republican party no longer shared my values.

Laurel I dont listen to Beck or Limbaugh - I tried to listen to Limbaugh and I threw up in my mouth - Beck I can’t comment on b/c I have never listen to him.  I am not a FOX news listener - the only time I watch FOX or CNN was when my now husband was in Iraq.  I have family who live in Canada and they pay 13% tax on everything…After paying it a couple of times you really didnt notice so NO I wouldnt mind paying that here - yes I want to see every American with healthcare.  Who wants anyone to walk among us sick - spreading germs to others b/c they can’t afford to get better.

C Hardy I’m glad you want universal healthcare but to be honest I don’t even think my reply was aimed at you specifically. I just had to say what I needed to say and your comment dealt with healthcare so I clicked reply. I never mean to lump anyone in with anyone else. I hate labels but I have also had labels slapped on me my whole life. I don’t listen to Beck or Limbaugh either cause I can’t afford to buy a new TV. Those two bug me so much that I would probably throw the heaviest thing I could find at the TV in the hope that they might feel it. As far as the 13% goes that doesn’t sound bad at all since my mom already is paying 10% in state and federal, I’m unemployed at the moment, and I do her taxes. Geez, sales tax where I live in California is already at 9.75% so what’s another 3.25% in taxes.

C Hardy … I don’t post too often, but I remember when you first began posting, and you have grown and come into your own so much since then.  I think I understand that you are trying to keep people real and point out hypocrisy when you see it. However, to not acknowledge the difference with this president is dangerous.  People are crossing a line, and being encouraged to do so.

If the citizens are unhappy with this man’s leadership, it is easy.  We live in America, where presidents can be booted out of office every 4 years if they lose their chance at reelection.  I have seen a friend who is extremely intelligent, a wonderful teacher of mostly low income Hispanic kids, falling into this ignorant abyss, spouting things about Obama and "indoctrination,", etc.  Thankfully, once she heard his speech to the kids, she actually thought it was pretty good and let them hear it.  What is happening to people?

I am so far from a so-called "bleeding heart liberal."  It’s blue-collar middle class all the way, which brings me to my next point.  Please don’t buy into this crap that the only people interested in some kind of public option, or whatever, are lazy welfare people sitting on their asses while you go out to work!!  Seriously?  I have 2 uninsured daughters; one who got laid off from her job and, not surprisingly, is having a hard time finding another one.  The other is a college graduate who didn’t take her new job’s insurance because it was so expensive and she’s got school loans and car payments.  Granted, not smart, and I told her she has to just take it anyway, but that’s not the point.  Meanwhile, I am in a marriage that needs to end, but if I was on my own, with just my paycheck, and insurance being deducted, it would kill.  I made my choices and I’ll live with them, but it’s NOT THE WELFARE MOTHERS WHO ARE GONNA GET FREE STUFF (LIKE HEALTHCARE!)  They are already on public aid, but there are millions of us who fall through the cracks - not poor enough for public aid, but not well off enough to make ends meet while paying huge insurance premiums.  BTW, I’m not even an "illegal," because, God knows, that seems to make a big difference to everyone, too.

I seriously think that all the people who feel government has no part in its citizens welfare should voluntarily turn in their Social Security and Medicare benefits.  Maybe that could help pay for people who need some asistance.  And I don’t go for the argument that "I paid into that all my life, I’m entitled."  It’s all paid into one big fund, and millions of citizens probably die before ever receiving a dime, and I don’t think it’s returned to their estate.  Their hard earned dollars might even end up in the hands of some lazy ass commie!

I just wanted to acknowledge you, C Hardy, and let you know that your growth and maturity is very noticeable.  If you relate more to Republican leanings, no problem.  But I hope you continue to keep an open mind, and see what people might be implying between the lines.  For example, I know you seem to admire this Deber person, but one of the first comments she felt compelled to make was to point out that the weekend demonstrators left the area clean as a whistle, while the inaugeration crowd apparently are total slobs.  What?  The point, please.  Does this mean maybe African Americans are sloppy, or murdering terrorists and left leaning citizens don’t respect their country as much as Republicans (this is where I think we were going.)  Or maybe people who voted for Obama are sloppy housekeepers?  Could it be we figure in the next couple of years when Obama pulls a Hugo Chavez and declares himself emperor for life or some such thing, every household will have a Republican come in to clean for them!

Obviously, I’m being silly, but the point was, she was not.  How could an apparently intelligent, affluent person say something so ignorant, assinine, and pointless?  Just think about it.  Take Care.

Gianna - thank you for the compliment - one of the main reasons I posted here is to learn and expand and see how others feel and think.  I dont always think those without healthcare are on welfare - I sometimes dont put out there all the information as I should - I know there are tons of men, women, children who dont have healthcare b/c its either too expensive or they have lost their jobs and kids have parents who have lost jobs.  I wish I could afford to put them all on my healthcare but that too is getting way too expensive.  This paying 20% of the bills is almost breaking us and almost put my parents into bankruptcy b/c we thought my Dad has lung cancer so all those tests - the out of pocket cost was over $1k with the new "better coverage my employer took this year which happens to be the same employer as my Mom.  My daughter and I are now going on my hubby’s, her fathers,  insurance b/c its way cheaper and we dont have to pay out of pocket that 20%.

Deber and I have a online friendship and I dont always agree with what she says but out of respect for each other we dont get nasty when we do happen to disagree.  I also have that kind of relationship with SG and Roger from Ohio, its touch and go with Frank but I like him all the same.  I was sad when DeBurca left b/c she was one that I could get down and dirty with and still on another thread be freinds and get along, I hope she comes back.  I dont always agree with what everyone says, right or left.  If we had cameras you would see lots of eye rolls when certain things are said that I feel personally should have been left out but I respect the posters and their feelings and I just ask for the same in return and from my personal experience I dont get that same respect from more on the left then the right.

Thanks again for noticing the growth and I hope you have a great night.

Thanks, S G, but I’m afraid I’m just about giving up on this healthcare dilemma.  Yesterday I read an interesting article in Newsweek about healthcare systems in other countries, and they pointed out that no one in these countries files for bankruptcy because of medical reasons, and it makes me hopeful.  But I have not encountered another person who feels as I do.  I am beginning to think that Americans as a whole are just a different breed.  The article pointed out that countries pick their healthcare systems according to their ethical and moral codes, and most feel healthcare should be for all citizens.  But Americans are just too suspicious and resentful of their hard-earned dollars going to "unworthy" people for this to ever be resolved in a just and humane manner.

I am saddened to hear that ALL of the GC’s that you are exposed to are hate filled radicals with little or no sympathy for the downtrodden. I would love to have you visit my community at anytime and perhaps we could expose you to a broader, more generous, class of people. You are right that many times the loudest to yell Christian is the least Christ like, but to paint all GC’s with the same brush is not only not fair, but unreasonable. And I know that you are a "fair and reasonable" person.

First thanks for the kind offer.  Second I try to be reasonable and fair.  Hate filled radicals is what I see the right wing being. Funny we all came from the same place in Africa no matter who we are. It is so sad we can’t just all stop any hate and accept one another.

But even you can agree, can you not, that all radical right-wingers are not Christian, and that all Christians are not radical right-wingers. And perhaps you might so far as agreeing that ALL right-wingers (conservatives?) are not radical but often times reasonable and agreeable peolpe? And I most certainly agree with you that it is sad that we can’t just stop all the hate and just accept one another!!The offer still stands. Maybe we could do something like a "student exchange" program. I could share my life with you and you
