Attorney General Eric Holder said the U.S. is a 'nation of cowards' when it comes to discussing race. Do you agree?

Favorite, no need to apologize! you did not offend me, i have seen much worse insults on this site, and i appreciate your civility. I also didn’t mean to ridicule you, i just thought it was funny. Everyone does it soon or later.

On the other thread, the monkey has been sliced into a thousand pieces already.   I agree that most people are very touchy these days.  There are several on this site that have built in radar for the slightest racist leaning remark.   We all know who they are and I have noticed that posters don’t respond to those people anymore.

deber:  …slightest racist leaning remark.

In defense of Holder, I don’t think he was trying to stir the pot of racism, and I’d like be believe when he called us a nation of cowards that he was including the black folks in that nation as well.

Both sides have to get beyond the language barrier.

Marjorie,

Both sides have to get beyond the language barrier"

I agree specially when you are the Attorney General talking to the Nation!

I personally don’t feel a coward around Blacks, Whites. Asian or any race.

sibelle, I can honestly say I never think about it.  Never.   The only time I think about racial tension is when I am on this site and that is only because it comes up on a regular basis.   Other than that, racial issues never cross my mind.  It’s not a part of my life.

Deber, i find that calling the country "A Nation of cowards" is rather aggressive, and maybe Holder needs a new speech writer.

That is definitively not the way to address racial issues but rather to provoke and that is what he succeded at.

I think his wording is absolutely fine.  His comment has begun what is needed, DISCUSSION.  Quit getting hung up on semantics and address the issue!

No issue with me, but BAD BAD PR from Holder! Maybe he’ll learn on the job like Obama!

I don’t think he was trying to stir the pot either.  The problem is that there is no solution to this issue.   White Americans have been taught extremely well to be politically correct in every arena.  Not that there is anything wrong with that.   It has worked up until now with an African American president.   It seems his presidency has heightened the issue of race which is directly related to liberals shouting out that if you didn’t vote for Obama you are a racist.   Seems those who voted for Obama cannot process that a vote for a republican candidate was just that.  If Colin Powell had been on the republican ticket I would’ve voted for him.   Obama supporters are stunned that the rest of America is not "ga ga" over him and because we aren’t there must be something radically wrong with us.

I see the American people becoming more and more depressed, worried and cautious.   The first new stock I will buy will be the pharmaceutical company that sells prozac because I feel confident many Americans will be taking it soon.

Thanks Deber! If Colin Powell was on the Republican ticket I would vote for him because he earned my respect and vote. The same would go for Gov. Palin and Condelezza Rice.

I am not "ga ga" over him and I can’t tell you the number of times people have been surprise by that from me. The response I got from a friend of mine last week "But you are a minority how come you don’t like Obama?" My response was "Do you think he is doing a good job right now?" And she was quiet for a good minute..silenced answered that question and she voted for him.

I talked about me being of mixed race a couple of times since I’ve been a member and it was the "so-called liberals" that did not want to have the discussion with me.

obama supporters are stunned that you so oppose him that you will bring the entire country down with you in order to rebel against him. after all, you are in that country, too.

Hear, hear, Marjorie.  I feel that Blacks need to become less sensitive and Whites need to become less defensive so that the PAST problems can be acknowledged and forgiven and the FUTURE plans can get on to the table.

After reading some of the posts here from people in the south, etc, I gues have just been fortunate. Was taught from childhood never, but never, say or think anything negative about others because they are a different nationality, race, religion etc. And haven’t witnessed or experienced racism, and little sexism. And until 8 years ago had no ill will against any group…..but now I do. I kiss the ground that I am not a Republican….and would never befriend, date, or want anything to do with one. The last 8 years has given me ample evidence that I want nothing to do with these people. When confronted by a Republican in person, am minimally polite and remove myself from the situation. They and their horrible values [with very few exceptions] have nearly destroyed this country. When men aske me out I ask if they are a Republican and if yes, the answerr is no. Want nothing to do with them after the last 8 years.
