So far, wayyyy beyond my wildest imaginings; made it through things I would never have expected in far better condition than I would have if I had stayed with the old and familiar.
Hello there, OE….I just read your thread"….your postings…because of something I saw from a current thread.I gather that you are a bit of a grammarian. Very cool…I’m not so hot and will ‘fess up to it right now..These little dots are the written equivalent of Ms. Kennedy’s "you know," I suppose…sorry…But this post of yours made me think of Molly Ivins. She was commenting on some bible-thumping Texas televangelist and said: "Well, if he presumes to speak for god, at least he might see that god gets his verb-noun agreement right".
Hello, Georgia. Your "little dots" are called "ellipsis" and are used by writers to indicate a pause in dialog, or the omission of a word, or words, in a sentence. By the way, ellipses (plural form) are represented by three dots only, followed by a space; not four dots without a space after them. A period is many times preferable to an ellipsis. In case you are curious, English is my second language.
Thank you, O.E., for favoring me with the courtesy of a reply. My parents were sticklers when it came to English. They loved it and their enthusiasm made it challenging and pleasant for us to "want to do right". I am clearly lazy!
English might as well have been a second language in the Southern "pocket" where we lived.
Your accomplishments are impressive ! (Full stop!)
Have had a wonderful life full of gifts and wonder. Have been graced with much. Have had many challenges as well, but all in all feel like this life and what I have learned is a precious gift.
I am not sure I would have been happy if I would have become what I wanted to be. I know that I have treasures in my life now that I wouldn’t change for anything. And I still have the crazy idea that I can be whatever I want at whatever age I am. I started college in my late 50’s with the idea of becoming the next Dr. Ruth but I ended up adopting my twin two-year greatgrandsons this year so I might have to wait until I am in my eighties. Maybe I will give Whistler’s Mother a run for her money and take up painting. I never know what is around the next corner. With 62 coming up fast I am now thinking about t-ball and little league. Life is strange.
I should have stated that I wanted to be an archeologist. Instead of studing the lives of past generations I have been contribution to the future generations with four children, four grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.
Mugsy,
You are amazing! I really like your thinking. Yesterday’s posts on how we can live in the present financial situation were so similar to mine, i.e., go back to the simple. You seem to really have your head and heart in the right places. If we were on the playground in third grade, I would ask you to be my friend.
