Frannie,
The question was about condoms and not birth control. At that time for most of us, birth control (pill, diaphragm) was all we thought we needed. AIDS was not on the radar, nor did we worry that much about STDs the way we do today, but should have.
OK, that was a long, long, long time ago. I THINK I remember it perfectly, but I’m sure time has blurred the images in my mind’s eye. Probably a good thing! :-D
I honestly cant remember , what I do remember is that he told me to bring my swim cap. Now get this, I am not making this up.
He was well trained and 10 years older than I . We were engaged.
He picked a hotel. I knew next to nothing about what was going to happen and knew vaguely about condoms so I thought the swim cap had something to do with it. lol
I had tons of long hair and he wanted me to shower and not have my hair wet hence the swim cap.
I did like the shower since we did not have running water at home at that time. I can’t remember the sex part.
I can’t believe that I am writing this , my mother is turning around in her grave.
Did I marry him? No , mother found out and send him packing.
Later in life she told me she should have let me marry him because he would not have wanted to come to the USA.
C’est la vie.
I must say that the first time was a totally unplanned adventure. He was cute, a good kisser, and a very smooth talker … and I was very drunk! LOL Luckily for me there was no surprise later because my mother would have killed me!
Did they even have condoms back then? I was so young and clueless and he was 5 years older and back from the Marines … I too, married him although it didn’t last more than 27 years. My gosh and I have 20 with my present husband who is 13 years younger - I must be getting really old!!
Frankly, this is a question for the magazine Men’s Health, isn’t it? But from the NYTimes yesterday’s edition of the 63 questions that must be answered before a person is considered for a cabinet post, could our editor have snitched this one right out of it — for that questionnaire really got into the nitty-gritty of family life? See below:
Want to Be Secretary of State?
Will Barack Obama also require two forms of identification? Those seeking Cabinet and high-level posts in the Obama administration are being sent a seven-page questionnaire that includes 63 requests for personal and professional records. They must report traffic tickets over $50, send along personal emails that might “embarrass the president-elect,” and reveal their Facebook pages. The application—which The Times calls the “most extensive—some say invasive—application ever”—also requires extensive information on family members as well. That seems to be for a good cause, though: Obama is seeking to curtail the influence of lobbyists on his administration.
It was my wedding night — we “saved it” in those days (or at least I did). It was a very disappointing experience. Apparently my husband was as inexperienced as I was.
Three days later, the condom broke, resulting in my “surprise” older son.
Yes!!! I had been dating the boy for 11 months and his family was going away for the annual beach trip so we did it before they left…Dated him for 7 1/2 years, my high school sweetheart…We are both married to others with kids!
Are you kidding, I went to catholic school my whole life, never even met a protestant til I was 12, had no sex education whatsoever from anyone except girlfriends at PJ parties…. ( the ones who went to public school ) had no idea about condoms and took my chances.
Those were the days before the pill, and the days of wire hanger or backroom abortions, which I witnessed. Horrible days !
