So you can catch that $22,000 error the bank made in your savings account last mohth, Frank. After all this BS with the mortages and whatnot, you TRUST the banks?

Trust banks? not really, and that’s why I keep a running total in my head.

With internet banking, twice a week. And, Mugsy’s correct; I discovered an error just the day before yesterday where funds weren’t transferred, but I was holding the receipt. Love the internet banking, though!

I balance mine, and then I also take care of all my mother’s financial paperwork. Mine is all by computer, but my mom wants everything down on paper. She has a tremor disorder and can no longer write, type or use the mouse very well. I think seeing me write checks, etc. allows her to feel like she still has control over her personal affairs.

Cynthia, I took care of my mother’s financial matters while my sister handled the medical stuff. Thank God there were the two of us. But, yes, as long as you involve your Mom in the writing of checks or making decisions about her finances, she will continue to feel empowered. I was amazed that when I started taking care of my mother’s checkbook at her house with her sitting right beside me, how much it meant to her. She never said anything because she was just glad that her daughters were helping her continue to stay in her home. Thereafter, we tried to involve her in as many household activities as we could…..even though to just do the task and get it done was less time consuming. Good for you. You are a caring daughter.

Thanks Bonnie. I insist that mom does grocery shopping, and remembers how to get to her various doc’s offices. She is such a vivacious woman and she has alot to share. Does anyone know of a better voice activated computer typing program than ‘Dragon Naturally Speaking’? It’s $1,500 software has kept it out of financial reach for quite a while. All input accepted please…

Yes, Cynthia. What I do is, find the website for the software you want, and get the number of the latest version; then go on Ebay and look for the software which is the just-previous version and bid on that. I paid $30 for my Dragon Naturally Speaking. I bought a good headset for it, which was more than the software, but it works better with the good microphone. It’s also better with my Skype, so well worth the money for that. I buy most software on Ebay these days. It took some patience to learn how to use Dragon Naturally Speaking, but I think well worth it.

My Husband does our checking account on the computer, but not on line. I use to but because of the amount of medication I am on I messed it up so he took control, but tells me everything.

Checkbook? What’s a checkbook? Purchase via plastic or cash and bank on-line.

Balance my checkbook? I don’t write checks often enough. The last check I wrote was for a 2 year magazine subscription renewal! For daily needs ………..cash, cash, cash. for everthings else ………….. it’s Master Card (I use Bill Pay to take care of the monthly balance).

I balance mine. I do need a job though, or there won’t be anything to balance.
