If you get into this—there is tattoo humor. Snokey remarked after my first: “Looks pretty good. For another ten bucks, I’ll sign it.” (I declined.) I also heard about a guy who wanted a lion on his back…but it barely took any time—-they had made a line down his back! I doubt that one, though—because doing the design is such a big part.

Carol - that’s hilarious! I may copy your idea even though my first one hurt so bad! LOL… my kids would also love that. i’ll have to tell my son.. he’ll crack up.

I just got my first one in April. I love it. It is very classy as many people keep telling me. It’s on the outside of my left foot and it’s just words. I completely understand why people say they are addicting. I could see myself wanting another in the future but what and where? - Well, we’ll just see when that time comes.

No, not if you count the “tattoos” my kittens so willingly have made for me. My are those nails sharp! (To cut their nails is a fight Muhammad Ali & Joe Frazier would be proud of) My legs look like a road map… As for getting a real tattoo, well I have toyed with the idea but never gotten around to it. Am not a fan of pain + would I still like it in say 20 years time? I’m not so sure….

I voted “No” as in “No, not yet”. I´ve been thinking about getting a tattoo for ten years now (yes, I like gut decisions). Now I finally know that it has to be on the back of my neck. Now I only need to decide, what´s it going to be. I guess that´ll take another decade. But I got an ear-pearcing in my upper ear - does that count, too?

JC Melonhat: About to pee my pants laughing at your clever name and avatar. I, like you, like to mull things over. At this point, it would probably be for ID only but wouldn’t mind a fairy on my right shoulder. I think an upper ear piercing should count. Long as you can see to get it in…… Agyness

Piercing” not “pearcing” - what was I thinking?! Thanks for the compliment, agyness. I can only take credit for the avatar. Georgia Fatwood is the brain behind this extremely clever name. She came up with it when we talked about my avatar and I thought it was soooo good that I had to change my original name.

Ooooo, and you have to get a diamond for your ear, or at least a really good cubic zurconia. I spelled that wrong didn’t I?

Where I come from it´s “zirconia”. But what do I know (see above). I actually do have a diamond in my ear. So I´m really an upgraded version of a Steiff animal.

To me tatoos are very tribal..A way of saying “I belong to this tribe” and seems to give youngsters a sense of belonging to something… I will never have a tatoo..the idea is unattractive to me, so I shall continue through life unwritten and undrawn upon.. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I myself have never seen a beautiful tatoo so my eye is most often averted when tatoos are encountered.

not for me. I just do not like the look on men or women. and when the tattoo/person gets older they look really bad. they just look cheap to me.

All this eye averting—I will have to watch for it… I think most people get tattoos for themselves and don’t really care that much what other people think. Maybe it’s one little area in which it’s OK to be selfish. Mom hates my sister’s and my tattoos—and like many people with dementia, mentions this and other subjects over and over and over. The other day, we said, “Why don’t you come and get one, Mom?” She of course shuddered and was totally grossed out. Then I said, “People usually get something that is part of their mythology, something that resonates with them or their past.” She thought about it—“I could get a restaurant. I love to go to restaurants.” Of course, this will never happen—can you see Mom with Edward Hopper’s “Diner” on her?

Star, there was a guy on LA Ink (on TLC) that got cheese tattooed on him, when he was diagnosed lactose intolerant. Maybe your mom should just get a blue plate special, not the whole diner. :-)

I actually laughed OUT LOUD!!! Mom is all about the cheese sticks! Perfect.
