No, happy to report that I have virgin skin. I think I will keep it this way, although I half-heartedly promised my young adult daughter that we would get penned together. I might back out. Or I will put the tat in a hidden place. But that would mean that I would have to expose that part of my body to a stranger- not too cool with that. I’ll tell you what I don’t like and will kill my daughter if she does one, those neck tattoos. I won’t reveal my personal bias, but I feel on a woman it sends the wrong message.

Personally I love the Henna tats on the hands and arms that I see sometimes —they’re not permanent and quite beautiful in their designs.

awww JMK that was a beautiful rememberance. I can almost see her. I’m so sorry for your son’s loss and yours and all the people who loved her.

JMK Singer…that you for that story…I too with 5 tattoos never understood why anyone would want tattoos all over, at least one’s you could never cover up…now when I see tattoos all over I will think of “your girl” and what she did for those men and women. I guess Beauty isn’t just skin deep!

I was OLD when I got it, around 49. this was a few years ago. Backstory is that I was lost in a rough neighborhood in Philly one night around midnight. Couldn’t locate the home of my friends. Didn’t have a cellphone, and couldn’t find a payphone. But I did see a tattoo store with an “open” sign lit in the window, so I went in there and they allowed me to use the phone. My friends were just a block away, but their home was difficult to find. I was grateful to the guys at the tattoo parlor, so later that week I came back in and got inked. Had been considering it anyhow. I got a hammerhead shark inked on my right arm. Actually, it looks like a blue penis with fins! The hammerhead shark is my favorite wild animal.

Ms. Singer, what a touching story about your daughter-in-law. Condolences, most sincerely. I got my first tattoo at age 50 as a rite of passage. It is a sun/moon combo on my left shoulder. The sun for where I was going and the moon for where I’d been. I liked it so much that I got another tattoo on my right breast. Ever mindful of the ravages of gravity, this one was a long feather quill pen, which will stretch with time. The pen means my story is still being written. Some of the stories you ladies posted kept me in stitches!

Thank you Annymin for your reply. I always thought a snake would be great on the breast it would just get longer. I am not into it for myself at this ripe old age.

TATTOOS IT SEEMS TO ME THAT WITH ALL THIS TALK ABOUT ORGANIC THIS AND LIVING LONGER AND CLEARING AND MEDITATION IS TOTALLY A CONTRADICTION TO GETTING A CHEMICAL POISONOUS DYE INJECTED INTO ONES BODY FOR PERMANENT VANITY. I AGREE THERE ARE SOME WONDERFUL PICTURES THAT LOOK BEAUTIFUL BUT BEWARE TATTOOING IS ACTUALLY A RITUAL THAT CAN AND MOST TIMES BECOME ADDICTIVE. I WAS READING THE COMMENTS ON GETTING THE BELIEF SYMBOLS ETC. DON’T FORGET THAT THE MAJORITY OF THE TATTOO’S ARE PORTALS FOR DEMONIC WORSHIP, SKULLS, DEATH, ETC. HEY MY SONS AND DAUGHTER HAVE TATTOOS NAMES, ORIENTAL SYMBOLS, HECK I DREW A BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY THAT I PAINTED ON MY WRIST WHEN I WAS YOUNGER SO I KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING THAT DRAWS US TO THIS CRAFT. VOLUNTEERING TO BE STUCK BY NEEDLES I WONDER WHAT A DIABETIC WOULD THINK OR A PERSON WITH SKIN POISON? ALL I’M SAYING IS BUYER BEWARE, RECENTLY ONE OF THE YOUNG LADIES THAT I MENTOR AND HER FRIENDS EXPERIENCED AN EVENING OF BONDING WHICH ALL FOUR JOINED IN AND CELEBRATED THERE FRIENDSHIP WITH TATTOOS WELL IT DIDN’T END SO PRETTY TWO WERE INFECTED, WHICH CAUSED A BATTERY OF TEST FOR HIV, HEPATITIS, PAIN, SWELLING, MISSING WORK, PLUS ONE YOUNG LADY DEFIED HER MOMS WISHES AND THEN WAS HUMILIATED WHEN SHE HAD TO TELL HER OF THE INFECTION. IF THIS DOES OCCUR GO TO YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY AND USE TAHITIAN NONI LEAF SERUM, IT IS IN THE PHYSICIAN DESK REFERENCE BOOK. WWW.TAHITIANNONI.COM/2432198 REALLY LADIES IS IT WORTH IT? AS I LOOK AT THE PICTURES DISPLAYED ON THE WOWOWOW WEB, I’M REMINDED OF SO MUCH BEAUTY THAT IS ALREADY HERE ON THE OUTSIDE AND WHEN I READ THE COMMENTS OR ARTICLES I SEE THE WONDERS FROM WITHIN. I READ THE DISCUSSION ON WHAT I DID ON THE FOURTH OF JULY WITH GAS PRICES THE WAY THEY ARE SHE WENT MILES AROUND AND AROUND TO FIND NITRATE FREE HOT DOGS AND ORGANIC POTATOES ETC. MOST PEOPLE ARE AWARE OF THE NEED AND SEARCH FOR NATURAL THINGS IN LIFE. PERHAPS THOSE WHO WANT TO GET TATTOOS OUGHT TO READ THE INGREDIENTS ON THE DYES THAT ARE BEING USED ON THEIR SKIN. JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT. SIMPLY*ME, KIM D A SPARKLING GRAIN OF SAND BECOMING A PEARL IN AN OYSTER OF HEALTH, WEALTH AND HAPPINESS

Yes, I have a wee rose on the small of my back. I got it when I was 51 and it felt very daring at the time. I am now 65 and considering getting another in a more prominent place. I had just gone through a divorce and wanted to do something that my ex husband would not have approved of. I know that sounds a little immature, but hell it felt good to just do something kind of daring for a change. I still am taken aback when I see someone covered with them, especially a young woman who may regret it when she’s my age or younger.

Yes, Judy, I like it! I’m in the midst of a mid-life crisis myself and considering a tattoo. I’ve NEVER done anything daring in my life!!!!! Its about time!

I dislike them immensely. Historically tattoos were once associated with royalty, but when I grew up they were associated more with bikers and low lifes. I guess that impression just sort of stuck. I’m not much of a fan of ink drawings in art either, so maybe it’s just the art form in itself that doesn’t appeal.
