Yeah, I agree, Georgia. I was always delighted when I saw that we’d get a few minutes of humorous bantering. On her own show she seems less spontaneous and light hearted, but I guess that’s necessary. Maybe she’ll relax more as time goes on.
Ditto, Mary Page, I love Maddow and her humor. I’ve never been big into slapstick…it’s in the turn of a word that does it for me. I did love Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. The always seemed such naturals and nothing ever seemed forced.
WKRP in Cincinnati—Herb and the Big Guy, and Les Nessman when they let him play. The time they tossed the live turkeys out of the helicopter and stumbled into the station office , beaten half to death by the angry crowd. “As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!” still makes me giggle. A close second was the time they forced the entire staff to sing the jingle for the Funeral Home ‘Bye, Bye”.
Nick and Nora Charles from the “Thin Man” series. I liked the TV series with Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk even more than the original movies. All that witty banter between them was my model for a perfect marriage.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were great on SNL. I’m happy that they’re doing (or will be doing) greater things. They’re greatly missed on SNL, although Kristen Wiig has been hilarious. The A’holes are pretty funny. Samantha Who? has great potential. Christina Applegate and Jean Smart need to take a road trip together, or at least have more scenes together with some good lines and/or situation. As good as Frazier and Niles were, I missed Daphne when she was “at the spa” (in reality, having a baby; Niles commented that she’d already lost 9 lbs. and 12 oz.) My nomination, which hasn’t been mentioned previously and perhaps because they strictly aren’t a comedy team, is Cagney and Lacy. They had some wonderful comedic moments, especially when Marybeth was having her baby and Cagney was trying to get her to the hospital.
No one has mentioned Mary and Rhoda! I loved the Mary Tyler Moore Show. I waited up on Saturday nights and when that theme song came on (I had it memorized), I knew my favorite show of the week was coming on.
I thought, “Wow, this is what it will be like when I am on my own.” Adventure, terrific women and friendships, crazy neighbors, wacky hijinks, yep, pretty much describes my life.
From the early days of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Even though they’ve gone their separate ways, both are still hilarious and very successful.
