I love winter, and though some people say this season has over-stayed it’s welcome I am enjoying the last of the snowflakes and lovely scenes created by the white stuff.
So glad, Chris, to find another loonie who loves winter. Where others find these days, especially after the snows, gray and depressing, I find them filled with expectation and rumination. It’s almost like a hibernation––hunkered down for months, cozy warm, long thoughts, lots of reading and time to respond to a cyber world that continues to bare its soul.
So well said, fellow nutmegger ! Notice how the sun is getting higher in the sky ? The air is still cold but the light is different, a hint of glorious spring is coming. We know we will get another wonderful snowfall, an excuse to hunker down with a fire, a book and cyberspace.
I could never live with the same weather all year … each season has such beauty !
Isn’t winter grand?! I do some of my best writing during the snows of winter, I just sit all snuggled up with a cup of hot tea watching the snow, or sometimes go sledding or for a walk! It all depends on the mood I’m in!
I live in Arizona, so no winter blues. The weather is beautiful, but don’t ask me about July. It’s winter in reverse, only we don’t have to bundle up and our cars always start, but we stay shut up in our AC houses.
We’ve had a lot of it this winter in Mich, Dona, including all day today. In fact, I’m sitting at a desk in my tiny efficiency apartment with rainwater coming through the leaky roof into a bowl I’ve got sitting on the table next to me. I’ve got 2 months left on the lease, and then I’m outta here.
Since I live in Carmel…the weather is mostly good year around….the rain we’ve had is welcome and creates it’s own excitement on the coast when it roars in. I go out walking regardless, and indoors have client projects to work on so the sound of the rain is pleasant accompaniment. If I’m out and it’s raining I get two coffees and stop at my friend’s shop on the way back. It has a fairy-tale quality esp in the rain, like a separate world. She has excellent taste, and I love her tales about her father who was a very attractive and much decorated admiral, and her beautiful mother. Photos of them have the kind of magic that can’t be ignored.
The biggest storm danger here in the Del Monte Forest are falling trees, and on the rocks being swept off by rogue waves. Some are concerned about being out and running into the local mountain lion nicknamed "Nice Kitty" that he might be more ornery when uncomfortably wet. Today….about ten deer were coming out from behind a fence and darting one by one across a twisty blind curve so I stood in the middle and stopped traffic till they were all safely across. That was the big excitement in the un-City…and that the butcher still had roasted rosemary-garlic-lemon chicken left.
Your descriptions of your friend’s fairy-tale shop, "nice Kitty", the storm’s ravage, you standing in the middle of the road stopping traffic while deer safely pass, and the roasted rosemary-garlic- lemon chicken is such a pleasure to read. You at your best. We need more of your best, Suzanne.
Your home area sounds totally wonderful and restive…especiall the coffee with the friend in her shop. You gave such a lovely picture of a bit of your life.

Suzanne, what a wonderful story … no deleting this one !
Glad to have you back ♡
James,
The Carpenters was my Husbands favorite group. He had me make copies for his car.
He knew all the words to the songs and even had a nice voice to sing along. I miss him
