I’ve been an Obama supporter from the get-go, but have never been terribly concerned about the possibility of a Clinton nomination, either. However, now I am becoming very concerned that the friction between the two will undermine either of their chances to defeat McCain in the GE. As someone had previously stated, the ‘Pubs will, no doubt, dredge up all the Obama negatives but she did not take into consideration the fact that there will be beaucoups negatives dredged up about McCain as well—perhaps more than Clinton and Obama have combined!!!! Let’s hope…
Christina is incorrect. She taps into all the negativity that is on the air waves but none of that justifies her position. How is that for direct? You can be against Hillary (or the Clintons) but that does not make the argument for Obama. you still have to discuss policy , postions and process. What I here is “change” & “hope” and nothing else. Talking in platitudes and sound bits is just not enough substance if you want this job. It in interesting that the talking heads are saying they are both “exhausted ” and “stressed” that is why so many gaffs and misstatements are taking place. Personally I want to se them stressed - alot. That tells me where their weaknesses ( and if their thinking is clear or unclear) are and if they can stand up and make decisons when the issues are murky and not clear cut. As an example: a grade school spelling bee: the winner is the one that the pressure does not buckle when he /she needs to perform. Don’t we expect this of sports figures in the Olympic track - why not the Oval office?
I think Obamba is very good on the prepared speech but can he answer hard issues off the cuff. That is when the President is tested and needs to have a moral center that can hold.
Finally, as to the comment on racism and sexism. Certainly there is both in society, however to imply that if someone doesn’t vote for the first black canidate is somehow “racist” is off putting. It could be based not on race but on qualifications as defined by that voter. Would it be racist in 87% of Mississippi or 92% of Pennsylvania voted for a black canidate? No one has made that claim re: voters of those 2 states.
Dr King did not judge by the color of a persons skin, but said that he could see a time when little boys and little girls of all races hold hands and join together in going to school. I hope this is the dream of all of us.
“What I here is “change” & “hope” and nothing else.” That is … “talking in platitudes and sound bits”. That is… what we hear from the media talking heads that don’t like him. That is the line everybody uses to dis him. But his voting record and his policies are there to be read and looked into. The way he carefully researches his votes can be found online. Listening to him talk, garners as much information, as does listening to any candidate talk.
I agree he is not so excellent “off the cuff”. But I disagree that that is what we need in a President. I want a president who gives careful thought and discourse and looks deeply into subjects. Obama does demonstrate this trait. It is just this trait that led him to speak out against the war.
Hope-hope-hope, change-change-change, yada-yada-yada!
The empty rhetoric is beginning to fall flat. Senator Obama has the pretty speeches. Hillary has solutions. That is our real hope. She will be the first woman in the White House. That will initiate real change.
I didn’t expect to see so much Hillary-bashing here. The media does that well enough.
Ladies, “politics ain’t purdy.” Hillary is in a male-establishment contest and there are no “nice girl” rules.
She will continue on with strength, wisdom and courage.
I will support her all the way.
If the media would stop telling us that Senators Clinton and Obama have made each other unelectable, maybe we would stop believing it. Come on, folks. Stand by your convictions, do not let the press dictate this election outcome. (My apologies to the ladies of the press who work so diligently to provide me with this forum.) I notice the majority voting on the survey are elated at her win by the way.
Very dissappointed in the State of PA’s blue collar voters once again voting against their economic interests based upon FEAR of moving forward into the 21st Century. After the fear-mongering of the last 7 years, and the BAD reactive decisions WE have made by just going along, you would think PA voters would know better. I agree with the New York Times Editorial Board — today. With 79mil boomers turning 60 at the rate of 1000 a day as of 1/1/08, enjoying historically unprecedented LONGEVITY, our children’s chances for a better life will be further eroded by the dual challenges of paying for ENTITLEMENTS and Hillary/John’s umbrella nuclear protection of the ENTIREMIDDLEEASTREGION. The dollar is worth half of what it was two years ago, the blue collar workers’ main asset — their home — is ATRISK and the 30 year Bush/Clinton run of outsourcing JOBS to allow aging unskilled workers to keep working in some kind of manufacturing capacity, is negligible. God help us. America needed REALLEADERSHIP to move out of this morass, but FEAR always seems to win out and Hillary Clinton played it to the hilt. For shame.
Quite frankly, I’m just sooooo tired of it all. It seems this particulary presidential election season has lasted for YEARS already! It’s not that I don’t care … I just think we need to change the way it’s all done. Give each candidate - regardless of party affiliation - the same amount of money (a small amount!) one week to campaign and get it over with. I’m appalled at the amount of money spent on campaigns and elections. I understand WHY it’s spent, but can’t help thinking of the myriad ways it could be used for better purposes.
I heard last night that in Pennsylvania there were many registered Republicans who had changed to a Democrat BUTWEREUNABLETOVOTE!
Most said they had changed because of Barack Obama.
Were there the same problems on the Democrat side? Oh yeah. Who would want to become a Republican now.
The Problem, when they got to their voting place they were told they were still registered as Republicans and could not vote.
Could not Vote? They had done everything right and they could not vote? A vote that could determine the future of this Country?
Worse, no mention was made of a “Provisional Ballot”.
Many left….never voted.
Many others waited, but after hours of waiting left without being able to cast a vote.
This bloc of people were not able to vote yesterday!
There were several other major problems which prevented people from voting in Pennsylvania.
Who is going to investigate this!
Who even cares?
What has happened to us as a Nation that has created such apathy.
Since I don’t think Hillary is a rational thinking woman I am unable to appeal to her.
Her “Campaign Camp” is even more irrational, dogmatic with a maniacally-crazed drive and intent that is scary.
Bill Clinton has gone mad, completely mad. This is not the man I voted for so many years ago.
I woke up this morning with a headache and I feel lousy.
Everything in my apartment is normal. The birds are outside sunning themselves. In my yard it is happy and Peaceful. It is a clear sunny day with little humidity. What I would usually call a nice day……………….for Florida.
But, my head hurts, and my heart hurts. For the first time I am really concerned.
I am always this way when something dark and foreboding is out there and I cannot see a solution.
No Way Out. Remember that movie? Yummy Kevin Costner?
NOWAYOUT! Yes……..That’s about how I feel.
It is said that Hillary appeals to the “working class”, the “Blue collar” people in our Country.
What does this mean? She can’t; doesn’t appeal to the more educated people at the same time?
She is a well educated millionaire who ‘claims’ to represent the so called less educated people….ONLY???
She has created a poorly run disorganized, dishonest and destitute campaign and is telling us she will make a ‘great president’???
What have we come to.
If she were applying for a job as a CEO at a large corporation she would be thrown out.
Don’t anyone try to tell me she has the qualities that are required to be a Good President. It just isn’t so.
I don’t know what has gone so wrong with her. She seemed like a nice woman. We don’t need a nice woman in the Presidential Office, nor do we need a dishonest, dysfunctional woman or man in the Presidential Office!
She says she is a ‘fighter’. We need THAT??? Not a thoughtful Diplomat???
I am a woman. Women are really special entities and so vitally important in the world right now especially.
How in the heck could Hillary have damaged her potential so thoroughly?!
Whether we like it or not she is not functioning on all cylinders.
Does she understand her role in the possible splitting of the Democratic party?
We could loose in November because of her utterly driven desire to be President.
Both Bill and Hillary have grown blinders and have become deaf to words of wisdom..
I am getting hungry, yet my stomach is in knots. No need to wonder why. I’ll bet there are thousands if not millions feeling about the same dispirited, heavy hearted way I feel now.
Let’s talk about money.
MONEY!
The adage “follow the money” seems appropriate now but not in the way we usually equate the notion.
Barack gets a massive amount of money, most all in small donations. I know. I am the $20.00 donor.
Hillary is fighting for every penny. I don’t get it. If she is the most popular, wanted candidate why isn’t she knee deep in dollars?
It doesn’t match up, does it.
Think I’ll go back to bed and pull a blanket over my head. Where is Charlie Brown?
I can’t. I am too damned mad.
Finally……
Have we learned; have we evolved since the beginning of our newly created Republic so long ago?
Tell me, please, I beg you……tell me I am wrong, that the intelligent, thinking people in this country I love so much will triumph over indifference; lethargy…..will use their glorious brain matter; their head for more than a place to put a hat on.
Oh sweet misery, do the people, the ‘We The People’ understand just how much is at stake in this election?
We have to have a person as our next President who is the best…..the brightest…..who in running this prodigious country is able to be the most probing; able to explore ALL sides; ALL possibilities before making a decision.
That person must be fresh and original. Inventive and innovative. `Free from any taint of a worn down or corrupt Government.
We have to be able to depend on our next President.
Our next President must have our full support and positive help.
The job description of our next President will be beyond any demands that have been made on previous Presidents.
Because of the weight of the problems that will immediately face our next President, we need to know that an incredibly innovative, judiciously levelheaded and quick thinking Cabinet will be created.
(and I am not thinking of Bill Clinton…..a slow boat to China will do just fine).
Any decision our next President makes must be well thought out whether large or small.
Our next President will be required to have eyes that take in everything, ears that listen carefully to every word and idea, and the ability to brainstorm through each problem that comes.
The next President must place our Country first, at the same time understand that every decision that is made involves the entire planet.
Isn’t this a hell-of-lot to ask? You bet. That is why we had better think carefully and hard as we weigh through who it is we want as our next President.
I really need to go eat and take care of life’s daily demands before I faint, but Gosh, I feel better.
Think I’ll go out and play. Dorian Casemore
Thank you for putting what I feel in words. Hilary Clinton is so disappointing. I am hopeful for a woman president but not at the cost of voting for her. She has brought it all down to gutter politics— women can do so much better.
The democrats need leadership within the ranks to force a compromise ( the nature of politics, isn’t it?) Let’s all grow up and do the right thing for a change. Hillary and Barack are not that far apart on the issues, so they should run together somehow, for the good of the country. There’s just too much at stake to let them continue this ego trip!
My 25 year old son made an interesting analogy. When Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play in major league baseball, he was not the best player available, but he was the right player. His tempermant, attitude, personality, all made him the right man for the job. It’s the same with Hillary Clinton, he said. But it’s the inverse. She’s the best woman to be the first woman president, but she’s not the right woman. For what it’s worth, he has a point. HIllary engenders such polarization that I agee, she’s the best one but not the right woman for the job.
There is a lot of vitriol here directed toward Hillary. Many people state they are shocked at how negative she is. I’m extremely confused because this is the NICEST campaign I’ve ever witnessed. If this is too much for Obama to handle, he needs to bow out now. What’s coming from the Republicans is not going to be like this garden party primary.
It seems there is an extremely vocal element of the press that is desperately against Hillary. This opinion, which has been derived from their own personal feelings and resentments, emerges in their published writings despite the ethics of their profession that dictate they provide unbiased journalism. They pound her over and over again calling her negative and low despite the fact she hasn’t done anything out of the ordinary for a political campaign. The rest of the press remains appropriately neutral. Thus, the only clearly defined opinion to surface in the mainstream media is the one that says she is negative and low, which has no counter balance. Regrettably, many latch onto this lone, clearly defined opinion and the Hillary-bashing fad is in full gear.
The paradox is that Hillary is the most hands-on, hardworking candidate I’ve ever seen. She takes the time to get to know all factions of the population and their individual needs. She carefully crafts this knowledge into a skillful plan of action to stabilize America. Mindful of the financial cost to our economy, she makes each of her proposals with a planned way to pay for them. She understands the big picture and can steer us back on the right course. This is not the classic election BS, it’s real, viable planning. What a shame it will be if we lose this chance to get this strong, highly skilled leader to what is the latest fad.
The final folly of this Hillary-bashing fad is what will happen if Hillary turns out to be utterly incompetent: We’re almost assured Bill Clinton will back her up and handle the situation. He will probably put our economy back on track. Having Bill Clinton helping out does seem like a terrible tragedy when you consider the fact that we are facing the worst economic mess we’ve seen since the Depression, doesn’t it? Keeping the Clintons out of the White House because Bill might sleep around and Hillary might misstate something is much important than watching our and our children’s personal and national economic security crumble for decades to come, or is it? I know what my priorities are.
I so agree Corner. And CNN is one of the worst. John King… terrible. Then there’s Russert, and Stephanopolous and all the others. Shameless woman bashing if you ask me. The second after Hillary trounced Obama in double digits in Pennsylvania CNN “reporters” - and I use that term ever so loosely - had found a way to make her the loser. It was bizarre. Is CNN a branch of Fox News now?
