Not just eyebrow hairs. At my age try chin and mustache hairs. No, I don’t have to look like I’m 20 again, but I don’t want to look like Cruella Daville, either. I need that mirror!
I am like JB - used to do the full thing and was moritified if anybody saw me otherwise. Now, slowly, since retiring, I have become able to go without. When I go out to dinner or shopping I will more than likely put on some blush and cover up the “age spots” but nothing more. I worry about embarrassing my husband but fortunately he thinks I am beautiful no matter what. I realize I will often leave the house and think, oops - I didn’t even check the mirror. I really get disappointed when I happen to see myself in the mirror - much older and plumper than I feel I am. Luckily, as with so many of you, my hair is so short I just flip it around and as long as it is clean and not “flat” I’m okay.
I’ve owned my clothes for so long I know what they look like on. I don’t wear make up so don’t need to see my face. My hair is a wash and go style and the part is there automatically. Mirrors…..maybe to brush my teeth, but I think if I had to, I could do it without looking in a mirror. So my answer is I can do without a mirror forever!
I’m fairly confident, most of the time, that I’m not inflicting some ghastly appearance on the strangers I meet in the world around me. But I do need to keep an eye on my skin. I still break out occasionally. I feel it, and I need a mirror to deal with it properly. But I’ve taken extended camping trips and vacations where I didn’t care what I looked like for days on end. And usually, I only use lipstick to keep my lips moist. On occasion, I need the cosmetic effect to lift my spirits, so I can’t say I could last forever, but I could wash my face my teeth every day without a mirror. In fact, I could live without a mirror a whole lot longer than I could live without a toothbrush. Yikes! That’s a fearsome eventuality to contemplate.
Forever, as long as I was sick and didn’t come out from under the covers.
Otherwise, maybe half and hour, I evidently do headstands in my sleep and my hair shows it. I have to shower and stand in front of a mirror to blow it in place, then try to stay upright the rest of the day.
I dont wear makeup except for special events. However, I do wear lipstick and a bit of color on the cheeks in the am. But when it wears off that’s it. I do need a mirror for it though otherwise it would be hideous.
I couldn’t go ONE minute without a mirror! I just got home from the beauty shop an hour ago and I have been in the mirror a hundred times. I love makeup and hair styles and clothes…..that means lots of mirror time!!!
I’m high maintenance….and besides that little mirror in my tiny clutch might someday be used to shine light in the eyes of attacking hordes or start a campfire on a desert island. A Girl Scout is always prepared.
I could go for about a week…..I have the chin and neck hair issues as well. I have been accused of being “high maintenance”, but, I have never been a make up girl. So, I am comfortable with the camping in a more rural area, idea. At this stage of life I am seeing more of a elementary school grounds than being in the view of a single man. So, I am quite comfortable without the “face paint”. It is the maintance of being over 40 that would make me run to a mirror….I agree with the idea that I would not want to “scare small children or horses in the street.” But, between the home office and the school, I don’t put on make up often. And to think! Back east, I used to buy a new dress and get dolled up for Thanksgiving! How life changes…..
I avoid mirrors whenever possible. I can never look in them even when I am washing my hands in a public restroom. I probably only look at my reflection once a day (at most) and that’s after I’ve awakened to brush my teeth and everything…when I still have that nice rested glow. Otherwise, I may as well be a vampire - I’ve found it’s just easier to ignore/avoid ALL problems in hopes that they’ll magically resolve on their own, lol…
I must be getting old…..my first thought when I read the question was: what would I do without a mirror if there was something lodged in my eye?? Other than that, I use a mirror as infrequently as possible. Mirrors are for decoration and reflecting light into the house.
I grew up with a mother who never liked how I looked. So I stopped looking in the mirror. It made it easier. Now, I make sure I have a “wash ‘n wear” hairstyle, so I can comb it in the morning and that’s it for the day. I never seem to find the need to check in the mirror to see how I look and fortunately, my occupation is as an artist so people expect me to look weird. Maybe that’s why I became an artist. The pressure to look good is off and the “off the wall” look is appropriate.
