I find it very interesting and a little disturbing what the media thinks should be of interest to the general public. I have not consulted the Obama’s on where to enroll my daughter in college and am not surprised that they haven’t asked for my thoughts on what school to enroll their girls. We are entrusting this man to lead our country. Shouldn’t we give him enough credit to find a suitable school for his children and pick a family pet?
None of our business.
However, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know these children will need protection, if I was the Mom I would home school them.
While we believe in public schools and our children have all received excellent educations at theirs, the Obama children’s safety must be a prime issue. In a private school in DC, there will be other children who have, while maybe not the Secret Service as body guards, some sort of body guard. As well, what do they want? Their parents, I know, have discussed this and will come up with what’s best for them.
I agree with Joan and others. The Obamas can make this decision without the public’s help. Most important issue is their safety. From there, the family can take it. I wish them well, all of them.
Sorry, dears, I was just daydreaming about a site that was designed for women over 40 that asked questions that were relevant to our lives, like which of the many issues facing the President-elect are most pressing to us.
I’m sorry, the doggie and the school just aren’t making my short list.
Me, too, Mommy! It seems so many of us have been asking this very question of late. Since you have always been able to get our esteemed WOW ladies attention, why don’t you bring this up to them at you very first opportunity? Many of us are BOREDTOTEARS !!!!!!
Michelle Rhee, the head of DC area schools is making amazing progress in turning the public schools around.
So I’d love to have the Obamas send their kids to these schools to create national visibility as to what a well-run public school can be.
I have been following Michelle Rhee’s progress. I think she is a dynamic woman who has some capital ideas and who has been able to withstand all the mushy tomatoes that have been hurled her way. In order to make the changes she advocated she had to close a lot of the schools and fire many of the teachers who weren’t teaching. She’s lucky that she has a good, capable mayor who supports her. As far as this question goes I concur with others who have expressed their dissatisfaction with it. A much more interesting question would be the advantages/ disadvantages of private versus public schooling. If anyone wants to run with this I’m game.
Phillus, I agree with you completely on the questions that are being asked of us and, as far as that goes, a lot of the subject matter just seems to be “dumbed down” as well. I was trying to make this very point in a humous way yesterday on the Mary Wells thread. Maybe I should have been “more to the point”? If you want to run with this, methinks you will have a lot of help with the legions of us here who feel as you do. I was wondering if after the WOW ladies got this site up and running, they found that they didn’t have enough energy for this and leading their own busy lives, too. And, then, they had to make a big decision and decided to hire some “sweet young things” to run this for them. Whatta ya think?
I think they should go to whatever school will provide them with, equally, the best educational opportunity AND the best safety and security. Period. And their parents should not be pressured into choosing any school for any reasons other than the girls education and safety.
