Polls shows that Hillary would beat McCain in WV in the general election, but McCain would beat Obama by double digits. The last person to lose WV and win the presidency was in 1916.

Here is a tracking page of a variety of polls over months and Obama bests the majority…and this is before the general election and before a VP choice. If he picks someone like former four star general, rhodes scholar and supreme commander of nato forces, wesley clark the numbers will go up. Plus the GOP has a current approval rating in the low 30s to the Demos approval rating in the 50s….and they just selected a motto that replicates one of an anti-depressant drug. Here’s the same tracking poll clinton vs. mccain…the imp number is the rcp average and obama and clintons is nearly equal against mccain.

This by far is the most volatile and disruptive thread since the site opened, IMHO. I’ve been reading along, and I am truly disappointed. Is it possible for folks to just peacefully disagree without the level of venom being reached here?

Go look at the one from last friday 5/9/08 that one got really nasty. This is mild by comparison. Everyone is on their best behavior here.

I agree and that is why I didn’t comment on that thread. These questions are IMHO are not bringing out the best in us. Now I understand the title of the movie “Mean Girls”. It’s just easier to skip certain comments that really do nothing to enhance differing opinions.

The race isn’t over. Hillary should stay in. I’ve been fortunate to be privy to recent polling among the…so called…average, none-university learned…elderly men and women from private senior citizen clubs; Hillary is their choice. Their fear: Obama. If he is the democratic nominee they will vote for McCain. These are people, who the majority are in their 80’s and 90’s, war veterans, nurses, mechanics, stay-at-home-mom’s from the forties and fifties — though they are against the US being in this war, they will vote for McCain over Obama if Hillary is out. These are facts from the white working class of our past, the pollsters and the political pundits seem to dismiss counting more on the young votes to carry it through. A grave mistake.

Mrs. Miniver, re 8:25 - I don’t know if people are aware - but as a group at least 98% of them vote. They are a force. But they are also very diverse in their opinions.

” Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton won a lopsided victory on Tuesday over Senator Barack Obama in the West Virginia primary, where racial considerations emerged as an unusually salient factor. Mrs. Clinton drew strong support from white, working-class voters, who have spurned Mr. Obama in recent contests. The number of white Democratic voters who said race had influenced their choices on Tuesday was among the highest recorded in voter surveys in the nomination fight. Two in 10 white West Virginia voters said race was an important factor in their votes. More than 8 in 10 who said it factored in their votes backed Mrs. Clinton, according to exit polls.” NYTIMES May 05, 2008

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/13/hillary-agonistes-why-doe_n_101… Michael Crowley has his own interesting take: [O]ne gets the overall impression that the Clintons feel Obama shouldn’t be here in the first place—that this ‘young man’s’ very claim to power is itself questionable. In this sense, the Clintons may be victims of their own sense of victimhood. The vileness of the Clintons’ past enemies seems to have convinced them that their enemies always are, by definition, in the wrong. And that Obama’s candidacy is almost like another illegitimate attempt to steal a White House that, in some sense, belongs to them.

The West Virginian win and the MAP showing the CLINTON wins tell a hopeful and a fine story. Her numbers may not add up - so what the rules are against her, yet the will of the people needs to be heard somehow. IT is time to ask ourselves the question since the political landscape has changed 100% when shall the President Election Process get reformed so we get clear-cut choices on President Nominees as well as Presidents. All her hard work for nothing not to mention the money down the drain - seems mighty unfair!!! A MAJOR rethinking is required.
