ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama has offered the White House chief of staff job to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill. Emanuel, a knowledgeable source tells ABC News, has not yet given his answer. The sharp-tongued, sharp-elbowed, keenly intelligent veteran of the Clinton White House is said to have ambitions to some day be Speaker of the House. But he also has a keen sense of “duty.”

Emanuel seems like a good choice; here’s hoping he’s a darn-site better than McLarty was for Clinton. Mack made one error after another, and worse, without pushing the government agency appointments things were in a mess for some top-flight candidates that were coming into the fold, or ready to move up to help the administration. This time around, though, we’re all the wiser, and better - we’re still alive and know what to watch for.

First result of the evening was a disappointing result on a very local level. A very small margin but still a difficult defeat. Then I came home to great joy in our country. I feel like I just got off a roller coaster and I ended on the high side of the ride. Our new president elect delivered another very inspirational speech. Even Sen. McCain came across with a wonderful address to the nation. I am so proud of our country right now. So hopefully this great high will continue and we unite to get down to work and fix some of our ills. God bless our country and the new leader, President Elect Obama!

I’m celebrating and packing to go to my sister’s for a week. If we can get this country re-involved and re-united, we face a very bright shiny future. And, I am thankful that Obama emphasized this tonight, that it is going to take the effort and sacrifice of all of us. We haven’t heard that message for a long, long time. All leaders talk about shared sacrifices and shared opportunities. I love the mantra, Yes We Can!

Kim, thank you. I am so surprised at how many wow women have written to me, and I had no idea so many were reading my posts. Now, it’s time to study the future choices for his cabinet and staffing. And, I am hoping Rahm Emmanuel will say yes because I simply adore him!

I agree Diana, Rahm Emmanuel would be perfect for the job! He just has to say yes. I think he will because no matter what is other ambitions were, how could he resist being a part of this historical administration at such a pivotal time? The last time I felt this much excitement waiting to hear about cabinet posts was with Bill Clinton’s first term after 8 years of Reagan! Only this time I am even MORE optimistic and enthusiastic about this new president and the choices he will make.

Jeannot, I’ll be checking in when I get to VA. Also, the Smithsonian has just opened a major exhibit on Pompeii, and I can’t wait to see it. Denise Graves in Carmen at the Kennedy Center. There is always something to do in our Capitol. And, I suspect that it will be a great time to be there:)
