Of course if that was totally true for me I’d vote Nader everytime which I’m ashamed to say I haven’t. My leftist views aren’t electable but if only ……….
I can’t vote for McCain; his reprehensible treatment of both wives and his “anger management issues: - which is nothing but a euphemism for “I’m grown up but I still throw temper tantrums, and I still want my own way!” - are too much. What some people call Obama’s lack of experience might just turn into a much-needed breath of fresh air for our nation. At any rate, I’d rather take my chances with the newbie than take the risk that putting a fussy old codger who has a fit when things don’t go his way, and who treats women like so much scheisse, would surely bring.
As for ANY president who was unfaithful… I know there have been many, and while some might have been good presidents, they were lousy MEN.
I choose the presidential candidate and running mate with whose politcal ideals and plans, for America and America’s place in the world, most closely resemble my own. Simple as that.
For this election? It’s Obama/Biden.
While there are things that I disagree upon with both of them, for the most part, I think that they are the ones that’ll work to make things better for the most citizens. I think that we also need to try to correct the ugly, rude and arrogant face that’s been shoved at the rest of the planet. I think this change of direction could accomplish that.
The Bush administration has really gotten us into a big, fat clusterf**k, for ourselves and for the rest of the world.
We have to play nicely with the other residents as, like it or not, we are a global community. I firmly believe this. It’s a whole new ballgame in the 21st century and beyond.
One only has to look at what the financial mess here has done to other countries. I mean, Iceland went bankrupt, fer goodness sake! How does a whole, damned COUNTRY declare bankruptcy?? It’s a direct result of our own greed and mistakes and general stupidity.
The biggest thing about Obama’s camp? It offers real hope for us. All of us, whether one realises it now or later. Even the voters who hate Obama will benefit from him being elected into the Oval Office.
I haven’t experienced true hope since Al Gore ran in 2000. Really. Two terms under Dubya has left me tired, frightened for the future, and really disgusted.
I am an ultra left-winger. I truthfully belong to no party. There just isn’t one out there that offers the exact, same points that I hold dear. Until one comes along, I will continue to vote Democrat, because most of the time, on most issues, they are the ones that most closely mirror my own views. They are one of two major parties in America that can get most things done the way that I think they should be done.
Geeze! I really dislike answering thought-provoking questions such as this. I get so wound up and passionate about…whatever, and deep down, I know that I am only one person…a speck. What does it really matter what I think or believe, in the grand scheme of things? It’s a majority rules arena, and sometimes the majority running things really chaps my ass. One just has to grin and bear it until something better comes along.
Hope fer the best, but expect the worst, and you’ll neeever be disappointed…
Anyway, this is the process that I took to decide to vote for ObamaBy Diana T on 10/20/2008 3:19 pm
Diana, I checked “other” because it is a combination of many things- just as you stated in your post. I want to compliment and thank you for the detailed thought process.
I will vote even though charges of voter registration- swirl around - I think the system works reasonably well.
I vote on values. McCain shares some of my conservatism. But he is such a misogynist. First he picks Palin, who reminds me of Serena Joy. Then he puts “health of the mother” in air quotes during the debate and refers dismissively to Lilly Ledbetter. Then he confirms his misogyny this weekend by decrying what he calls the “liberal feminist agenda.” The former maverick doesn’t share my pro-woman values. Obama does, so I’m voting for him.
Policy, policy and policy. That is why I voted for Obama. We seem to think the same about everything.
Oh, Kryssi K, I agree on the electoral college. I think it’s time we revamp the voting system. Should be straight people’s vote. On that note I think we should do away with the political conventions. Waste of time and money.
I was going to check values, then realized someone would misunderstand my intent. Since I believe values entail a whole lot more than those slanted to the right of me define them as.
Values are based on whether or not I choose to be loving, honorable, kind, a good person, love of God, (higher power) love of self, and love of neighbor, love of the land, all the critters in the world, and mostly love, care, and responsibility for all the world’s children. We ALL must take responsibility for the world’s children and critters and all those less able than we. Isn’t this really what “values” are all about?
Policy - I use stated policies mostly to eliminate candidates but do want to see which are most closely aligned with my ideals.
Checkbook - You mean the candidates checkbook? Never!
Values - This helps to ‘round out’ the candidate’s profile but not decide my vote.
Personality/Likability - Only to a very small degree. I don’t have to like my leader. I need only to trust that she/he is not deceptive and that they will act in my best interest.
I had to choose “Other”. My vote goes to a candidate after much observation, research and consideration and then only for the person that I believe will act wisely and in the best interest of the people as a whole.
I’m going to vote for the only person running for office that has created a job, produced something our economy needs, and can stand up and has stood up against the male dominated oil industry….SARAHPALIN. I am ashamed at the women in the media who dis her because of abortion…who fricking cares about abortion…I care about energy and the jobs it will create for our country…shame on the women of this country who ignore what she has done because she isn’t part of your party group…obama, biden mccain are the same OLDTHING…ALLINTHEPOCKETOFSPECIALINTERESTSANDDONOTHINGBUTTAKEFROMOURCOUNTRY…SARAHISTHEONLYONEWHOHASSTOODUPANDDIDSOMETHINGGREATFORHERSTATEANDSHAMEONALLOFYOUFORIGNORINGIT…IT’S JUSTALLDISCUSTING
HERELADIES…we want what is best for our children right? Here are the schools that received and refused funding by Obama in Chicago…look at Chicago schools and you will see what little Obama did…wake up Ladies why are you so blinded?
Chosen to receive a grant:
The South Shore African Village Collaborative for their “Celebrate African-American Holiday of Juneteenth” (celebrating the Emancipation Proclamation). Some African-Americans celebrate Juneteenth instead of the Fourth of July (a report fromTexas).
Turned down to receive a grant:
*The Chicago Algebra Project: goal to increase student achievement
*The District 5 Math Initiative: goal to aid Hispanic students in the process of learning English, to further learn math and science.

Valerie,
We are informed voters as apposed to low information voters.
I lived in Texas for many years and African Americans celebrate both holidays. Juneteenth has special meaning for Texas blacks because Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galvestion, Tx on June 19, 1865 to extend the emancepation proclamation to black slaves.
Only in recent years has Juneteeth celebarations spread across the country. Some African American still don’t celebrate Juneteenth.
Is there a point that you wish to make ?
Values shape Policy.
Any Pied Piper can sooth the masses with promises of milk and honey but promises never tell you ‘…what they’re really made of…’.
Economics:
Obama’s values dictate that ‘…we should spread the wealth…’
McCain’s values dictate that ‘….we should not raises taxes on anyone….’
Obama’s values dictate that ‘….$1 million a day in earmarks is ok in 6yrs…’
McCain’s values dictate that ‘….Zero earmarks are ok in 26 years….’
Life:
Obama’s values dictate that ‘…life begins above my pay grade….’
McCain’s values dictate that ‘…it starts at conception…’
Obama’s values dictate that ‘…when dealing with evil you would….confront evil…’
McCain’s values dictate that ‘…when dealing with evil you would….defeat it!…’
This election has two VERYDIFFERENT candidates.
One candidate’s values appear to still be evolving, while another candidates appear set.
Only one candidate really knows the man he is…..John McCain.
The question:
What factor, honestly, decides your vote on election day?
(A)Policy (B) Checkbook Values (C) Personality/Likability (D) Other
My answer: Values - because they shape Policy
Any Pied Piper can sooth the masses with promises of milk and honey but promises never tell you ‘…what they’re really made of…’.
