Though I’ve never considered it before, I’d love a place where I could carve out a small career and some financial stability for my family.

I almost voted for “health insurance” but instead I went with “other” because it’s a combination of health care and individual/civil rights in general, for me. Too much oppression in this country for those of us who aren’t white heterosexual Christians.

None really, but if I needed a kidney transplant I would consider going to a country where I could get one. I have already been told I would never be put on the list in the U.S. Same goes if my mom needed a treatment she couldn’t get in the U.S. Even Charlie Rose had his heart surgery done in France. CA

I’m relocating to France next year because; 1) my son is a French citizen and has lived in Europe most of his live, can’t envision him returning to US and miss him very much. 2) While I love the US, I loathe the US government under GWB and while I am a Democrat I am not a fan of Nancy Pelosi, either. 3) I’m not just leaving something (I love Northern California very much) but going to something. Really love France, and appreciate the health care system and pace of live/values in Provence and proximity to Portugal/Spain/Italy etc. What’s kept me here are mostly my parents, and work committments. For the first time in their vibrant/active/healthy lives both, at 78 and 80, are in compromised health. Even though I can’t do much about that but call everyday and support them as I can, it is extremely distrubing, esp since my brother’s death in late July and the impact that has had on them…and I can’t just leave. Am torn. Miss my son so much and love France, and can’t leave my parents and love Nothern California. Aiyee!

I think if I relocated anywhere else in the world, it would be to Provence. I’ve been there twice and found it absolutely entrancing. I hope you have a wonderful life there.

Babette: Provence and the Luberon Valley—on my yes—I loved it there—the marvellous greens , the wines and the fields of lavender in bloom—a little bit of heaven. ;-)

Tina Fey said if Palin/McCain get in, she’s done and “Leaving Earth…cannot take four more years.”

Ah, Suzanne–––You don’t always get what you want, but sometimes, just sometimes, you get what you need. Shades of a rolling stone that gathers no moss.

Hello WW - I wasn’t going to, but reading your message compelled me to respond because I have a similar problem, and Provence is heaven on earth, winter or summer. That’s where I would be heading. Currently what bothers me most is what is happening to the leadership of the USA. For the moment, just let me say: John McCain est un héros et un patriote. Il n’est pas un monsieur. Il est malhonnête. Son candidat semblable d’Alaska est enfantin et de façon déprimante mediocre. You know what I mean. (ain’t it a shame).

Yes if we dont have Health Care for all I have no choice I have to move to France or DIE …and I have too much I want to do before I die ..what keeps me here is my Dad …or I would of been gone in 2003 …he is 80 …that is all that is keeping me here …My Fathers girlfriends cousins live there ..Near Paris ..and they LOVE it …One cousin lives in a small town and has SPECIALISTS as In Doctors around from her house …What makes me nervous is MONEY…our American dollar only BUY 1/2 over there ….I think were will I live ? And who can I get to sign the papers for me to get a bank account so I can have electric …and so on … I just worry …But I worry more about the Health Care Nightmare in America …and what will happen to me if I stay …

I sometimes think that our government is criminal but I have never thought of leaving for some other country. We are a country ‘of the people’. While our government, at any given time, may be horrible - I believe in the American spirit and feel that we can recover from just about anything because we live with the idea of what America can be. I still get shivers down my spine when I salute the flag, hear God Bless America, even while I howl at night about how far we have fallen short of the American Dream. It is kind of like raising a troubled teenager. While you rant and rave, veto and punish, you still see the good and hope that it will prevail.

After learning American history and living for over sixty years as a patriot victim of senseless ignorance, and name all the sins man could devise…just look in the white pages here and need I say anymore…..TT

America is not a perfect experiment, but I can’t imagine leaving it.
