Well, it certainly hasn’t been wOw that has been neglected … that’s for sure.
We’ve all stuck like glue, spilling out our every thought on our favorites and our un-favorites — ye gads! have we gone after them!!!! But I am betting I am not the only one who has spent too much time hanging on to the long stream of pundits each night —- and tell me that there are some others out there who haven’t been feeding their book habit nearly enough.

Time to begin again — just read a goodie on Alice Roosevelt Longworth (Teddie’s daughter) that I could not put down. I have decided I want to be like her when I grow up - no grass growing under my feet and my clever words on all the front pages. And her love life … I will not say more, but those who love biography that incorporates history, political life, and women who were before their time, this one’s for you.

Hey, Joanie ponie puddin pie….I am with you as always. I have taken on a “vow of silence” for a few days to let emotions and heart recover from what I have seen as the “race of my lifetime”. I am also reading….I love biographies and have always loved “old Alice” so will check that out. I recommend the life story of Katherine Graham who oversaw The Washington Post for so many years. It is also “unputdownable”. And, btw, Sen. Amy is all over the tube everywhere you look!!!

agyness, you are right, very good. I even bought it twice. When sorting through my books trying to make room for me to live, I made the mistake of selling it back to Powell’s. Then I had to go buy it back because there were refrences in it to so many times of my life, I would go looking for it trying to get a sense of what was going on at a particular time. It has become a great refrence source. Bev.

Hi Beverly….good to see you! I agree with your assessment of the Katherine Graham book. I, too, have used it many times for reference and thought it was just a great book about a truly smart interesting woman. She was certainly a woman of her time and someone to admire and ahead of so many. Cheers to you!

There is another book called Katherine Graham’s Washington. It is a book she assembled out of articles, Memoirs and humor and history chosen by her. It brings Washington DC to life. It covers 1917 the year she was born to 2001 just before she died. It is fascinating because a lot of it comes from the personal diaries of her mother and her social circle. It also covers material from people that many of us over 50 should recognize. It’s like the life and times of Washington from 1917 to 2001. FACINATING!

Beverly, thanks so much! I am going to look that up right away. It should include many of the characters that peopled my life during the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s in Washington as I spent my young adulthood playing in that wild and wonderful scene. I ran around in what is now considered history and loved every moment. Do I have stories to tell or what? I am just in heaven with all of the memories and I will add this book as am sure it will bring back many more. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.

Hey, Agy, long time no see — or something like that. Listen, every one of us should read “Alice” - what a book, and what a woman — frankly, I would like to have someone tell me her equal. Smart, snappy, never let age get her down or the traumas of childhood, and the
discretions of her naughty husband who she forgave a hundred times, you just can’t miss it and it is just out. And you, Agy, are like me - loved Katherine Graham, a different kind of amazing woman who prove she was up to her husband’s job — and seemed so lovely and SMART. They must be smart!!!!!

As for our Senator Amy Klobuchar — are you watching how much she is showcased — and why? Because she is likeable and so smart but still “just like us”. Let’s hope she stays that way! She and Teddy Kennedy are thisclose — too too good for her future. When they say “what about Hillary in 2012?”, I think “what about Amy?” But then WHO in their right mind would WANT the presidency about now — what a way to die young from the stress and strain.

Great to hear from you, Kiddo!

Joanie…..I am going out to buy “Alice” tomorrow cause I know if you recommend it, it wiil be GOOD. Also, I am sold on Sen. Amy Klobuchar…she is so so smart but at the same time, such a wonderful but natural woman. I promise, it seems as if she is on almost any channel I turn on. We will give Obama 8 years and then I hope it will be President Amy Klouchar. And, it makes it so much nicer knowing that she is close to you!

My diet and exercise regimen. I got so glued to C-SPAN and the computer that I lost the habit of hitting the workout room for an hour a day, not to mention indulging in stress eating instead of planned calorically correct meals!

So I gained eight pounds in five months. Time to regroup and get back in the discipline.

I also seem to have stopped reading novels. Most of the reading I have done in the last year has been nonfiction or online stuff. Maybe I need to neglect wOw a little and catch up on slimming down and enriching my mind.

That is OK, a few pounds, a historic election; I would not rewrite a minute of it even if I could. Well I might do a little more to stop Prop 8, but that is not over, not by a long shot.

Elizabeth, “Prop 8, but that is not over, not by a long shot.” With San Francisco’s City Atty on it….he is one heck of an effective, relentless fighter and Gavin Newsom is not going to roll over on this either….his signature cause.

I just cannot believe the outcome of this, Suzanne. What’s your take on why? What are people afraid of? To me, it is the strangest thing. Yes, I hope Newsom and what’s his name do some vigorous fighting on this issue.

Religious-right nutjobs like Chuck Colson stated Prop 8 was more important than the presidency and evil/Nazi Blackwater billionaire, Erik Prince, supplied the money to defeat it. http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/106102/the_man_behind_proposition_8/

Phyllis and WW, I heard an interesting theory on this - the resounding victory for Obama was also the cause of the defeat of Prop 8. Black churches have been, and still are very anti gay, as is a good proportion of the Black Community. I heard a Black Minister saying that the bible states very clearly that marriage is between a man and a woman and while he voted for Obama he voted against gay marriage. Possibly the turnout of black voters was the reason the Prop went down.
