Hi Elizabeth, Same here… I don’t follow sports during the year other than football season but was a gymnast myself for 15 years. I am soooooo looking forward to the olympics as that will be the one sport I’ll not miss!
Other.
Sitting next to a fountain on a hot summer day, watching the folks walk by. While sipping a cold diet soda. And praying for Autumn. That’s as close to sports as I get.
Baseball—the roar of the grass, the smell of the crowd—wait I have that backwards. lol I love the symmetry of the game—you walk into the ball park and see the perfect green, the geometry of the field, the word park says a great deal— and then there is the game, a game about winning surely but more about loss; the best hitters only hit 3.25 times out of ten if they’re lucky, a good team will consider a winning season if they win one more game than their losses. And it’s about coming home. Still the most important reason and lesson of the game. Whitman had it right when he said, “I see great things in baseball, It will take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism, tend to relieve us from being a nervous, dyspeptic set, repair those losses and be a blessing to us.” And be a blessing to us. An ideal and so it is with the game—and ideal.
Usually the Red Sox when they’re winning. However, after watching Rafael & Roger go at it Sunday, I’m hard-pressed to make a choice today. Whatta match! Signed, The Ever Improper Bostonian now living in Boring Boynton Beach!
The Red Sox took it on the chin last night on ESPN, at the hands of the Yankees. Both teams are looking up at the surprising Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. My Tigers are six games back of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. Detroit went 19-8 in June, but the White Sox and Minnesota Twins have been playing outstanding baseball. It’s going to be a real dog fight to the finish. Oops, I shouldn’t say that…Michael Vick’s ears might perk up.
The Red Sox are my team as well, and I had to go with Baseball. But I tell you, that was the most entertaining, most nerve-wracking tennis match I have ever seen!
I’m not really a spectator sports person, never have been.
But do a lot of sports.
The ones I watch on occasion are equestrienne events, and the major horse races like the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. And sometimes the opening events of the Olympics, but not really interested this year.
Do like watching Olympic skiing and figure skating events.
Olympics by far…but, if you watched the men’s final at Wimbledon today you couldn’t help but be hooked on tennis. It was incredible! Congrats to Rafa Nadal for his win, and Roger Federer for his gallant effort and gentlemanly step off the center court.
I always try to catch “Breakfast at Wimbledon” and yesterday it was brunch, and dinner too! To watch two incredible athletes give everything they have for hours on end was a privilege. To watch them both end their day as gentlemen was refreshing and renewed my faith in professional athletes.
I don’t typically watch sports unless my daughter is on the court/field. The exception is the Olympics - summer or winter games - no preference.
