I’m a night owl, but Sunday mornings in the summer are the greatest! The place I love to to sit and watch the garden is our patio, and the must accessory is a great cup of coffee!
These posts are so beautiful, so different. Isn’t it interesting how we are so influenced by the sun, the sky, the atmosphere, the dark calmness, the water… we really are children of the earth, made of stuff from the stars. It’s hard to tell where we end and the rhythm of the waves begin.
I’ve long thought that we all have an internal clock, a natural preference for a time of day. I am not a morning person, although when forced to be up at dawn for an early flight, I can see the beauty of the day at dawning, the promise of a new beginning. But like so many posters, Kryssi, C A Rose, K B, Josie, and James, my preference is really the quiet of the evening. I am at my most productive when the hustle of the day is over. I find daytime so distracting, so much to do, so many people, pulls from so many directions, the phone, the doorbell, appointments … I love it when it is over ! I don’t think I’ve been to bed before midnight ever !
But saying that , there are a few very special moments in a day : late afternoon on the beach during vacation, cocktail hour to be exact. The little children have gone to their baths, the beach has emptied out, dinner is still to come, the sand has cooled and the sun is still warm, but sinking fast. My very favorite color is not the sunset, but the color opposite the sunset… the pink, blue, purple, gray over the water on Long Island sound. So subtle and soft, you must watch it because it changes by the second. Your feet in the sand, glass of wine in your hand, your skin radiating the heat of the now departed sun, a day well spent. HEAVEN !
But an equal favorite : A mid winter snowstorm, midnight. I go out to shovel a path and it is a winter fantasy, the snow falling, lit by the streetlights. The quiet is sooo quiet, the cold is sooo cold but so wonderful, clean and crisp, I have the world to myself, also HEAVEN !
But just as important… my husband is a morning person, I’m a night person… that’s probably why we’ve been married for 38 years ! He gets the morning, I get the night, we meet in the middle for a few hours… works for us ! HEAVEN !
EKA, We used to have a mountain house on a lake and loved the snow too, and all the ski trips. Once in Sante Fe at the holidays and down town in that lovedly sqaure with all the luminarias lit and a light snow….beautiful. Really see interesting dress in downtown Sante Fe too.

I didn’t press the “VOTE” button because I can’t pick a favourite time of day. When I’m there, that’s the best time. When I won’t be there, that will be the worst time.
My favorite time of day is always at dusk, just before the sun sets. It doesn’t matter where I am, wether I am at home or in another country. I must say, the sunsets in Europe….Especially Italy are the most georgeous of all!
Nice photo, Elaine. Is that from your flying days? (you don’t still fly?)
Italy….ah…would be nice to be there. Lake Bellagio, Postino, Capri, Portofino.

Hi Winery, Yep, Yep & Yep. Ha-Ha. I mean Yep, It’s from my flying days and hubby just took it a couple of days ago. And yep, I still fly. Was on vaycay when we spoke on the phone, but considering giving it up after 30 years. I’ll ponder it a little longer cuz I gotta admit “I love being a fly girl. And after all, when I hang up my wings, I’ll have my life time flying benefits, so sometimes I wonder what the heck i’m waiting for, as it’s been an awesome ride. And yep, no place in the world woo’s me like Italy, any and all parts therein. :)
By nature I’m a night owl, however society has made me a day person ! It’s that work thing ! I love the cool air in the mornings, the stillness before everyone wakes up and starts stirring around. I like the warmth of the afternoon sun, the blue sky, watching the birds and relaxing on the patio, the calmness of the evening, walking in our neighborhood watching the sunset begin before the stars start to twinkle.
