I’ll second that, Sarah Palin should not be on the list.

Agreed; she is not so much changing the world as she is creating a hindrance to women’s progress. People in other enlightened parts of the world are laughing even more at us thanks to Sarah Palin.

I can’t believe that Sarah Palin was even listed as one of the women listed to be considered for changing the world. Good Lord, this election can’t be over soon enough. I am so sick of seeing this idiots name and face plastered all over in any serious conversations! Ugh!

She was put in there for no other reason than to stir up the wowowow comments, predictably. If we want her to go away here — or anywhere — we need to stop reacting so strongly every time her name is mentioned.

I’ll take Melinda Gates any day of the week—that woman has accomplished so much good in the world thru the Gates Foundation that it’s difficult for me to see her equal in the world today.,

The gds of frtn have given her this opportunity — making the most of it. Admire that, too.

She got my vote, too, fp.

I wish I could honestly say Hillary. I think it should be Hillary, but I honestly think it’s Oprah. Not that I don’t think Oprah deserves the distinction. It’s just that I think Hillary should be our next President and that would make it a slam dunk for her to win this poll.

I’m baffled about this list. Oprah? Palin? Angelina Jolie? How are ANY of these women among those who are changing the world? Someone mentioned that this sounds like a list from PEOPLE magazine. Maybe the reason I can’t understand the choices in this list is because I lived during the era of Barbara Thatcher, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi, Gloria Steinem, and others. Yet, if I must choose, Melinda Gates and Hillary Clinton would be on my list.

Celebrities like Oprah and Angelina are leading the example of how to utilize status for the Greater Good — they are using their fame to simply raise awareness, which is one of the noblest of causes in itself. They may not be directly changing the world as we speak, but they are DEEPLY important in motivating others to get involved, and perhaps become the next Mother Teresa. =)

So Joani, of course the cheeky answer to this very important question is…. Liliane Bettancourt! Any 83 yr old woman who inherited from her father and had the smarts to keep the company going gangbusters for 40 years since his death must have some serious kudos going her way. She is the boss of L’Oreal, and the richest woman in the world with 22.9 B USD. Not a bad example for business women who want to take their niche business to the max! Wasn’t it Nora Ephron who said the most important invention of the 20th century was hair dye? LOL

Where is J.K. Rowling? A woman who gave eleventy-zillion kids a reason to read a big thick book changed the world a lot more than some of those names in the list. Rowling did more for literacy - especially with our little boys - than any state-sanctioned “standard” ever has or ever will. It’s not always about politics. People who read will always know more about EVERYTHING than people who don’t read.

You know, I was going to submit my original list. I researched it to be sure I put the women out there that I thought was best. Now we have a final list and I need to do research again! Further more, my daughter & granddaughters do not know most of them. Okay, what is the question again? I must be getting old. Is this the final list? With the exception of a few, to put it mildly, this is sad. I plan to teach to my original list. Hillary and Drew are on it and I understand the influence, if you will, of the others but we need to teach our children well and sometimes that means to teach history, not what is current and popular or fashionable!

SARAH PALIN??? Changing the world? She hasn’t even been able to change Wasilla! Gerry Ferraro already ran for VP, sooo unless it’s the first female cretin Republican VP, I don’t think so. Now, Medea Benjamin, you’re talkin’ my language!

Isn’t it wonderful that there are so many women worth of the nomination?
