Mugsy, you are a joy. In mid-insomniac ramblings that roll out of my mouth, your comments always give me a chuckle and a good frame of mind to try to find that ever elusive sleep I need to face the next midnight hour.
Mugsy, you are so with it. Wish you were my neighbor. We could laugh the day away. Maybe you should be formulating the questions for the day. Or does the panel take suggestions?
There are talented, over achieving women in every sport if we just take the time to notice them.
Thanks, kid. Could be I’d also annoy crap out of you with my insomnia (yep, me too)…. It’s so amazing the way they just step over us, you know? Like did you realize that Martina just never got ANY endorsements because she was a (shhhh!) Lesbian (OMG! NO! YOU’REKIDDING!). One of the great anthletes of our (or any) day. Good thing Bush doesn’t know what Title IX is or he’d rescind it.
If Wie ever achieves her potential (which seems unlikely right now), she would be a worthy candidate for the title. Sadly, her parents and handlers appear to have squandered her talent in favor of cashing in on her youth and marketability.
By never really allowing her to — you should pardon the expression — “man up” by learning how to compete and WIN at the collegiate or LPGA levels, instead banking (literally) on her appeal as a novelty act on the men’s tour, I fear they have lessened the chance for Michelle to ever achieve her potential.
I hope I’m wrong; I’d love to see her — kind of like Sean O’Hair — rise to the top tier after finally breaking away from her parents.
Dee Dee, that’s why god made google! AS came pretty close to taking on the men’s tour, e.g. Michelle? Oh, lordy lordy lordy. I was a hella good golfer in my day, only it was on alternate days, I’m afraid. One time I shot a 2 under par 72 on 18 holes at the local countryclub as an 18 year old woman, and the next day I had 278 on 9 holes. Oh, well. Anyway, these kids are a good group. Babe Didriksen, they aren’t, but give ‘em time.
I find it a little hard to believe that the votes are split almost evenly among Ochoa, Sorenstam and Wie. Crucial distinction: Ochoa and Sorenstam have won TONS of events, including majors; while Wie is, at least thus far, primarily a novelty act.
Hey, people: doesn’t winning count for something? Especially if you’re asking “who is the female Tiger Woods?” Tiger is all about winning; so it’s hard to see how “the female Tiger Woods” could be someone who hasn’t yet won diddly squat (to use a technical term).
That’s a tough one. Tiger really has no “real” competition at the moment and I can’t say that about the top players in the LPGA. There are some very tallented ladies out there, but they seem to be pretty well matched across the playing field. Keep your eye on some of the up and coming juniors, though! It is bizarre how good some of these kids are!

While I realize this discussion was last year, I have to comment.
Have none of you folks ever heard of Mickey Wright or Kathy Whitworth?
Whitworth won the most titles (88) of any golfer in history, male or female. Tiger should be shooting for her record, not Jack’s.
