My perception is any woman who has worked her way to the top has obviously rid herself of the Disease to Please and perhaps that does entail developing a thick skin. For me, I had to think amongst Hillary, Condoleeza and Martha Stewart and in the end, I voted for Martha. She did go to jail and even if it wasn’t considered “hard time” it was a form of humiliation that a less confident person might not have come back from, let alone continued on in the public eye.

Do they really have thick skin. Or just hide it better in public. Being a woman, they are forced to not show feelings. Then they are criticized for that.

ThickSkin” seems such a crude term for what is effectively an admirable trait in women who are so exposed to the fast moving world scene. Any one of these ladies manages to hold her own and remain oblivious to conditions which would be devastating to most homo sapiens. However, Ms. Rice is the one who would never show signs of “taken-aback-ness”, for any reason, not even to herself, not even in her weakest moment. Let’s hope she stays that way, because we will be needing her again in future.

I feel Rice is of the few who knows the truth about everything that goes on in the White House. Shes doesn’t let on when the questions are fired at her. I believe she is more intelligent than Bush and it must be hard to defend him. She has to have very thick skin and I hope one day it will become tender again. After the fact, she will write a book and we will know who she really is.

Iris, good question. But I’d add to it “and still be likeable” and that would rule out Hillary for me.

I noted for Hillary because she has been exposed to public scrutiny on both her private and public lives. Nancy Allen

Perhaps the question should be “Which of these women needs the thickest skin”, in the sense that she must overlook and get past all that is said about her rather than being immune through insensitivity.

Hey Ole Crone…..what makes you think that Hillary hasn’t had plastic surgery? or use botox? Not that there is anything wrong with her using either or both, but I would guess that she has had at least one procedure….

Of the three top vote getters, Martha Steward, at least, has paid her debt to society.
