Well Sylvia, the people where you live may “not be stupid or poorly educated”—but apparently you are—I was insulting New Yorkers with my “inference”—implying that americans in “flyover country”—which incidentally I am a part of—were smarter than New Yorkers.
It was a clear win for Joe Biden. Palin didn’t answer many of the questions and her remark that she’s only been doing this for five weeks hurt her badly; pointing up her lack of experience. Unfortunately for McCain, Palin’s debate caused many people to rethink their republican vote. What was he thinking choosing her as a running mate? The spectre of “President Palin” was frightening.
She was a Journalism major… does everyone agree that we really need to improve education in this country ?
She did have a moment when she couldn’t remember the correct programmed phrase for “waving a white flag of defeat” but it finally came to her. Basically she retained the talking points pretty well for the short term. Senator McCain has been doing roundtables and other small meetings for the last week because he didn’t have the cheerleader to pull the crowd for him. She’s back now .
There are times that I get flashbacks of old Shirley Temple movies with finger in the dimples, winks and the “golly gee” folksy dialogue. Is this what her supporters see ? She didn’t answer most of the questions… did she not have a scripted answer or did she not understand the question ?
It’s time to get back to the economy and the never ending the war now.
She was a journalism major at a succession of 5 third rate colleges and she can’t speak English.
“It’s time to get back to the economy and the never ending the war now.”
Exactly, Caribou Barbie has had much more than her 15 minutes of fame. Alaska!!! Please indict this fraud on Troopergate/Vouchergate charges already. And child protective services should be investigating the effects of dragging a special needs infant on the campaign trail as a prop. Only a total self-centered imbecil would do this. The poor baby.
I thought Palin was better than I thought she would be….but, she didn’t answer the questions. I didn’t care for the winking cutesy act or the use of slang.
I voted other - if you are an undeclared voter, you likely still are - we got to see good things from Joe - how well he really knows his stuff - how his years of work in the Senate have shaped him - his pause on talking about his family was genuine - I only wished he had called her on more of her exaggerations and lies, though I did like it when he noted that voting for tax increases are often buried in other bills so if you did that math, then McCain has voted for tax increases even more times - though her handlers knew that, by him saying that, it showed her lack of understanding, so to speak) - I think overall it was smart for him to attack McCain and not necessarily her unless she baited him
the good news for Palin is that everyone had low expectations of her, so for the first 1/2, we said, hey wow, she’s answering some things - but then when she got warmed up, told Gwen that she wasn’t going to play by the rules of the debate and address the people of this country, I thought, okay, here we go - and if she winked one more time at the camera, what was that - her use of colloquialisms was too much, one or two to show you’re not a robot is fine but every answer having one is too much - and when she basically blew up the Constitution on the powers of the VP, again, what was that -
this is still not a person I can see having serious conversations with world leaders (oh wait, that point is moot since she won’t be meeting with anyone anyway) and trying to get the Senate to accept the President’s policies (that’s huge - I mean, she pi$$ed off the East Coast, and her continued talk about shaking up Washington when she used the game to get money for Alaska is disingenuous)
Oh, Kryssi K, I am with you on that!! I got very tired of the “you betcha” and “by golly” style! I said to my husband this morning that Palin was pretty good at talking for 2 minutes without actually answering the question.
I thought Joe Biden did an excellent job and his knowledge and experience was obvious throughout the debate. Sarah Palin did a great job of not answering questions. As a female judging her, I’m glad she was more prepared but I wish she wasn’t McCain’s choice for a running mate. I think that choosing her has been a setback for women despite what Hillary Clinton accomplished.
I think that choosing her has been a setback for women despite what Hillary Clinton accomplished.
Some of us think the opposite—I personally like her and think she is a pistol (or moose gun or whatever) and educable and want to see more of her! A lot of the women beating her up on this list also dumped on Hillary.
Star,
This debate drew the largest audience ever for a V.P. debate. I don’t think they tuned in for Biden. Granted there were plenty of vultures in the rafters, but a lot of people genuinely like Gov. Palin. And a lot of them of men. Hooray !! They vote, too.
Gov. Palin did well for someone who received a great deal of programming in a short time. To me that suggest that she can cram well for important test-great skills for a college freshman but not for a U.S. Vice President. Unfortunately, she reeks of Bush level intellect and that’s not comforting after what Americans have gone through over the past several years.
“Joe Six-Pack” my ass, we’ve been through enough already!
To me, all she did was repeat sections of the speeches she has been giving. The only new thing I heard was.. ‘I want more power as VP. I want the power to run the Congress as a faithful servant of the White House’.
Darthette Vader:
if that vice president so chose to exert (more authority) in working with the Senate and making sure that we are supportive of the president’s policies… tapping into that position (VP) and ushering in an agenda that is supportive and cooperative with the president’s agenda in that position. Yeah, so I do agree with him that we have a lot of flexibility in there, and we’ll do what we have to do to administer very appropriately the plans that are needed for this nation.
and…that’s more of the same.
I wonder why Sen Obama thinks it’s desirable for Sen Biden to run the Congressional operation. He will have a political director for that—a White House lobbyist. Part of what you don’t like about Cheney was he got up in there.
