1. Style vs Substance what would you choose for yourself, your kids or your grandkids?
2. Imagine this debate in a totally different setting, a face to face, one on one interview. Disastrous.
3. We had our kids watching the debate and we had to be explaining every step of the way. Especially her use a folksy vernacular in a national debate. Come On! Ignoring debate rules. Remember she is the hockey-mom giving shout-out to 3rd graders and using words like “heck ” etc etc.
Hey, Star & My Alias , I just want to say I really appreciate the different point of view you both bring to this site. It really would have been boring without you ladies. Keep it up.
Gee thanks, Edwina. I can’t speak for Star, but I know I had a lot more friends when I was supporting Hillary. Obamacans were always hostile, but when I defected to McCain no one talked to me anymore. :) Hah! A few yelled at me tho and decided I was stupid. heh heh heh.
This doesn’t bother me personally, but I do worry for the future of women. Sexism is embedded in the very crust of our evolving social structure and many younger women are unfortunately feeding the hate. I know I confuse some bloggers because I actively criticize Republican policies while deciding to vote for McCain (used to be a diehard Dem.) But I see a larger picture unfolding here and I have no problem with a bold vote. I think McCain could be an extraordinary president, that is… if he can dump the Rove machine once he takes office. (This is, of course, a big if.) The pitbull with lipstick has useful skills if kept in line, but the Dem ticket is risky and dangerous in my opinion, on many, many levels. It’s the top of the ticket that worries me. From domestic to foreign policy, to sexism, to the very foundation of our Democracy and the voting system. I know that Biden’s message was McSame, McSame, McSame last night. But frankly I have always viewed Obama as much more Bush-like than McCain. Dirty, corrupt campaigns make for corrupt administrations which lean towards dictatorships. And Bush is the prime example of this. Winning isn’t enough. Winning well, winning fairly, is.
I am soooo disappointed in the pansy-arsed alien-eyed Dem leadership these days… Pelosi and Dean have to go!
Wow! My Alias, honestly your last few comments through me off and I’m lost for words.
I guess we all see different things in people we like, including our choice for presidential candidates, but to call Obama sexist, and his campaign dirty and corrupt is really not fair. look at all the ads McCain has and is running against Obama, listen to all Sarah palins insults and rudeness toward Obama at the RNC. Just to refresh your memory Obama was the 1st to defend Palin and her family when everybody was attack her kids. Lets give credit where credit is due.
Edwina, so sorry to shock you. I am speaking of the primary election and the dirty tricks therein (Michigan/Florida/the caucus mishigosh) and also Obama’s senate run in Illinois where he had his opponents turfed from the ballot. He is not forgiven for the primary just because he stole the nomination through technicalities and caucus fraud and is the Democratic candidate now. Nope. No siree. I won’t drink his koolaid. I want a man of integrity leading this nation again. McCain is such a man. After the last power-mongering bozo in the oval office I will not vote for another who will stop at nothing for his own self-engrandizement. Ego should not lead, duty and service on the other hand should. I do not see Obama as a man of virtue, rather as a man driven by his personal desire for importance, stemming from his smoldering father issues. Same issue Bush had. I want a reliable daddy in the White House, not another ambitious son. Of course, I’d much rather have had a strong mother in there (Hillary), but I’ll have to settle for McCain.
Don’t forget Sen Obama’s sly references to the blood of white slaveowners running in the veins of his precious daughters (race speehch), followed by all his who-me protestations about introducing race. His links to bombers and domestic terrorists (don’t believe the NYT whitewash on this, they worked closely on the Annenberg thing. And his supporters’ foul crashing of websites and sexual and violent threats against McCain suuporters (the atmosphere of worship, if not his direct involvement). On and on. The way he came to power…wait, we are not quite sure on that, are we?
I don’t know about all that Star, but I have often wondered about his overflowing coffers and who was exactly funding his campaign during the primary since we know Hillary was grabbing the popular vote and Democratic base.
Incidentally, what is the news on Senator Kennedy?
Yes—I think calling someone a whore and trash is mean (not to mention, useless), and I think expressing thoughts about facts and allegations that bother me is fair game.
Whoa—you can speak for me anyday! I must have been wrong on thinking you had switched. Many culpas! What a thing to accuse someone of. Yes, Biden was the same old, but probably most people haven’t heard it the first time…
if she winked, and grinned that cheshire grin and said she and Todd represented my family one more time…oh the visual cartoon violence scenes that ran through my head!
i love that biden brought up the general in afghanistan’s assessment, and then she called the general by the wrong name and biden had the good graces to NOT correct her. but he did grin…
