If I were married to McCain, an unlikely scenario, we would probably have fought in the car on the way home tonight, because no question I tried to tell him a million times not to try to be funny, it wasn’t anything he was good at.
And if I were married to Obama, another unlikely scenario but a far more attractive one, I would be driving home having a hard time not thinking about the curtains.

From what I’ve read, the opinion of who won depends greatly on who you went into the debate supporting. I found it very disappointing. The questions from the audience - prescreened - were not particularly provocative and simply set them up to go back to their normal talking points. I earmarked my pillow, leaned back on the couch and took a snooze.
I kept thinking about which one I want representing the United States with groups of the leaders of the other nations of this world.
Obama’s presence sang out loud and clear. He will restore dignity and once again other countries will look to us with respect and hope.
Mary I agree with you 100%. McCain comes across angry, arrogant, and reactionary not qualities I want in my president. We have had enough of that kind of guy for the last 8 years.
No surprises - Obama was smooth but I yelled at the tv a couple of times for him to answer the question - I found McCain too harsh and his mean streak really shows - but that’s who they are - so if you are undecided, you sadly likely still are
Barbara I would have to agree with you…I was expecting a town hall debate to be a little more down & dirty. I would of liked to hear Obama and McCain both tell us how they were going to fund any of the stuff they wanted to do…I laid in the bed and watched and then woke up when I heard “Thank You Gentlemen”…
McCain is not a jokester, he can’t tell a joke but I also thought it rude that Obama refused to stay within the time allowed…To me Obama pulled a Palin when asked a certain question and then would go back to the other question first b/c he didnt get a chance to come back after McCain spoke so that took up extra time…I was getting bored…
I did not hear anything new that I dont hear on the radio or tv w/ their ads so that was very disappointing…I want someone to ask real questions…To Obama “do you really think our military goes into villages and kills innocent people on purpose and they enjoy it”???
To McCain I guess I would ask…What makes you so much better then the next man whose been in DC for 20+ years?
If the next debate is the same way I’ll go to bed early.
Gosh….I hear several of you people saying “he didn’t tell me exactly how he will do this or that”. I am astonished how anyone can expect the candidate to tell you exactly how this will be accomplished in two minutes. Lots of time the candidate did explain it in general but if you are on the other side of the party, you might have missed it…..or ignored it because you wanted a detailed, in depth, long and lengthy exact explanation. We can’t expect that in a two minute debate answer.
I heard McCain explain that he would buy up the mortgages. Well I know for a fact that means that another 300 million will go into the deficit of the American public….on top of the already 700 million.
I heard McCain say he would give a $5000 tax credit for health care….but didn’t explain how, but I had already read everything I could about his plan and found out that many businesses will drop their coverage and the people who have pre-existing conditions, will most likely not be able to be approved for the personal plan the $5000 is supposed to buy. He also didn’t say the $5000 credit will go directly to the insurance company and will not go into the American public’s pocket, and that was done on purpose as he wants the general public to think they are going to get a big check and not buy the insurance. Wrong!
I think everyone has an obligation to research each candidates’ platforms and positions before you decide to vote. Heavens do not depend solely on a two minute answer to a debate question where the lies flowed like honey and the jabs are worse than a scapel during a surgery.
Rainbow,
Buying the mortgages is already a part of the $700Bil. rescue package.
And, how right you are about doing our homework. I have spent hours of research on each candidate’s advisors, position papers and voting records. Just watching the network pundits is not going to answer the questions. The devil is in the details, and it would take an hour to explain any position and the framework of that opinion for an answer to make sense. Besides, whomever the next President is, he has no idea exactly until he gets to the Oval Office just what he will find.
Rainbow Power,
I totally agree with you, “I am astonished how anyone can expect the candidate to tell you exactly how this will be accomplished in two minutes.” I think Obama did a great job and he does not waiver on the way he answers from one debate to the next. I really feel that he is clear headed, and passionate about trying to “right” the country. I really like him more and more. I don’t know how anyone would want to be president in these troubling times. I truly don’t like the way McCain refers to us as “friends”, I don’t even know him, friendship takes time to establish trust. And he is extremely rude, to say about Obama “that one did” that was dispicable, I think he showed his true character at that point. I personally believe that McCain will not involve any of his so called “friends” input into anything he does. He is too full of himself for my taste. His true “friend” is the one that got this country into this mess, I was watching the news this morning and it was said that while the bailout was in the making, AIG C/O’s were at a ocean front resort receiving pedicures, manicures and massage. Can you believe, I am outraged to say the least.
Rainbow…during the debate Obama made a comment that said “McCain says this is what he is going to do but hasnt yet told us how he plans on doing that”…Ummmm ok, so your defending Obama for not having enough time to tell us how YET he called McCain out on that during the debate.
I understand the canidates can’t get everything in they would like and if thats the case why even have the debates?
Oh and please dont assume I or anyone else commenting on this blog hasnt done their own research to try & find answers to our questions b/c I have and still lost, for both canidates…
IF I vote for McCain it wont be for his $5000 tax credit…I think that is a bunch of hog wash but I also dont see how Obama can get anything he wants done, done…With the House and the Senate, I just dont see how it will ever get done b/c one will deny it b/c of their own reasons and not the reasons for us, the people.
to my mind, obama won hands down. mccain’s “that one” comment, was the definitive moment for me. it showed what a mean-spirited jerk he is. he wasn’t always. there was a time when he had dignity and integrity. but now, no. now he’s just a desperate lying politician willing to do anything to get elected. boo.
