10 Things You May Not Know About Hillary Clinton

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

With Hillary Clinton set to be named Barack Obama’s secretary of state, we thought we’d take a few minutes to offer ten things you may not know about one of the world’s most famous women.

1. One would think the junior New York senator would grab her favorite food from one of the Big Apple’s delis, but Clinton actually prefers Oliver Burgers from Pickwick in Chicago, Barack Obama’s hometown.

2. If we were to guess Sen. Clinton’s favorite show, we’d probably say “Law & Order” or perhaps another drama of that ilk. But, unfortunately, we’d be wrong. Clinton says she’s a devoted fan of "American Idol" and simply adores last season’s winner, David Cook. The senator must have been absolutely swooning when Cook serenaded her at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards earlier this month.

3. Yes, Clinton likes recent "American Idol" David Cook, but she’ll always love Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, Carly Simon and U2, all of whom she’s cited as some of her musical musts.

4. Alright, she may not be the Julia Child of Chappaqua, but Hillary Clinton claims on her MySpace page that she makes a “decent” plate of scrambled eggs.

5. Clinton’s typically cool as a cucumber on camera, but that doesn’t mean this politician doesn’t like to work up a sweat. Her preferred physical activity? Speed walking. Senators, they’re just like us!

6. Sure, Sen. Clinton gets down and dirty with the rest of Washington, but she prefers to get her hands dirty in her garden.

7. Clinton describes being "naughty" as sleeping in until 7 AM.

8. Hillary Clinton doesn’t take a bubble bath to relieve stress – she finds solace in organizing her closets. Hey, Hillary — next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, come on over to our place. We need some help!

9. In addition to spending time in her garden, Mrs. Clinton also enjoys taking in a good flick, but has a special place for the internationally-set “Casablanca,” and “Out of Africa,” but also can’t resist sitting down for the all-American classic, “The Wizard of Oz.”

10. Diplomacy requires very specific language – and Clinton knows how to pick her words carefully. In addition to her years in Washington, Clinton’s trained her internal dictionary with years of playing Scrabble and cracking crossword puzzles.

Hello Carmel, First let me commend you for your passion and thank you for taking your time. I cannot possibly respond to all of this (I have a business and a 5 and 2 year old). And you know I ask your forgivenss for saying you are an unhappy person, because that was out of line. But there are things here where you are absolutely wrong. I will absolutely agree that the bailout of these banks, car companies is completely irresponsible and potentially criticially damaging to our nation. But I would also add that there are lots of Democrats—including Obama—that support this. In fact, Obama was asking Bush to help the car companies. So how can all of this be blamed on Bush? Second, I’ll comment on this paragraph: America experienced the most severe economic decline since the Great Depression, the greatest stock market percentage decline in US history, the most catastrophic stock market fraud in the history of the world: over $4 trillion was lost by investors and over $1 trillion was lost in pension funds and university endowments. Leading to the most personal bankruptcies, and the most real estate foreclosures ever filed. My husband is a licensed financial advisor and I work with him—so we obviously follow this pretty closely. First of all—a basic understanding of investing is that some of this money is not lost. With the history of the markets—even in this tough environment—-this money will be back. Now there will be some that will lose because of bankruptcies, etc.—but that is why you diversify and not just in small and large cap. And these problems were not caused solely by the admin. Bush’s admin can be blamed for lack of oversight, Clinton’s for pushing mortgages to low income folks who couldn’t afford it, Barney Frank for ignoring Fannie & Freddie’s problems (remember Obama’s got some good dough for his campaign from the them), the execs for risky behaviour, the big banks for buying and selling securities they did not understand, the local mortgage company for pushing interest-only, balloon and variable interest loans to people who would never be able to keep them, AND the people who knew they would not be able to afford these homes is “life happened.” There is no way you can blame Bush for everything. There are many things that are debateable with facts and opinion in your post—but like I said—not enough time. And I don’t think you are interested in my view or opinion anyway. But I’m not “ill-informed” and not perfect—so I might find that I’m wrong sometimes. And I’m guessing you are too. Happy holidays and I’ll close with that. Many blessings to you and yours.

well, ya wrapped up a lot-o-stuff all Americans should, but don’t know—-a shame—-‘it goes with the place’—FYIPBS Frontline but the med industry avoidable deaths at 1,000,000+—‘tip-of-the-berg’ as no mention of tens of milions reduced to zombies by Big Pharma poison—-but, not being dead, as from Vioxx, can’t count them—- a simple solution would be a ‘trap-door’ under every politico’s chair—-

yo—-babe—-‘sock-it-to-em’—-they need it—-they are not simply stupid—-global IQs continue to rise, and year’s ago it was shown any human has their own ‘area-of-genius’—-what goes wrong? usually early ‘programming’ by an extremely biased edu-system, family, society—-look at Werner Von Braun, space-faring’s Great genius—-his goal was always expanding humanity beyond Earth—-not killing—-but via his Nazi society he used ‘prison’ labor to make ‘killer-rockets’—-then got us to the moon—-was he wrong? the key is learning to both think for yourself, and ‘watch what they do, not what they say’. no easy thing—-and not taught here—- why do i ‘haunt’ this forum? unlike ‘physics’, ‘life-science’ and others—-it’s wide-open, no ‘personal agendas’, as in under or graduate school—-and i’ve seen what was once termed ‘telepathy’ as quite real—-and now termed ‘morphic-resonance’—-ahh! a ‘scientific-people’ term—-that helps—-and as i’ve lived, i’ve seen women as far more adept at same vs. men—-as i feel i bear important ‘dispatches’ of Life—where to go? you did that. me thinks you found the proper place—-that 3:48pm post is a piece of prose ‘to-die-for’—-i’m a pro-writer—-to see the political truth ‘laid-out’ in a post? as a good poem—-a novel on a page—-i see another—-and may your reader’s minds ‘get-it’—-then thoughts are proven to have wings—-sort of ‘mental-multiple-marketing.’ :)

Hillary Clinton, like all of Obama’s choices, is a brilliant selection. She has immediate global stature, knowledge and good will…..none of which Condi Rice had coming in as Provost of Stanford University. And she doesn’t have what Condi did have, an oil tanker named after her, nor does HRC sit on Boards of Directors of oil companies as did Condi. Nor is she a crony selection as was Condi Rice. Hillary Clinton will be the best Sect’y of State America has ever seen…..and she has something that Condi didn’t have. A Rhoades Scholar /former US president husband who is beloved around the world. How’s that as a sidekick to help carry the luggage?

What does she grow in her garden? It’s a totally irrational thing, but I never pictured her taking care of a garden. Makes me trust her more than I ever have before.

Obama’s 15 minute articulate announcement of his Security Team contained more intelligence, wisdom and competence than did the entire 8 years of Bush Inc. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/01/obama-set-to-introduce-cl_n_147… He also has barred Faux News from his last 5 press conferences….good for him.

Carmel, I watched his announcement on Fox News and yes, it was articulate. But so was Bill Clinton when lying about Monica Lewinsky. No one has said he is not articulate—but you are putting a lot into a mere 15 minutes. He has a long way to go. He barred Fox News from his press conferences—I’d like that confirmed, because I find that unlikely. He sat in an interview with Bill O’Reilly. If he had a idealogical position against Fox News, then he is being disingenous.

WASHINGTON — The Labor Department is racing to complete a new rule, strenuously opposed by President-elect Barack Obama, that would make it much harder for the government to regulate toxic substances and hazardous chemicals to which workers are exposed on the job. The rule, which has strong support from business groups, says that in assessing the risk from a particular substance, federal agencies should gather and analyze “industry-by-industry evidence” of employees’ exposure to it during their working lives. The proposal would, in many cases, add a step to the lengthy process of developing standards to protect workers’ health. Public health officials and labor unions said the rule would delay needed protections for workers, resulting in additional deaths and illnesses. With the economy tumbling and American troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, President Bush has promised to cooperate with Mr. Obama to make the transition “as smooth as possible.” But that has not stopped his administration from trying, in its final days, to cement in place a diverse array of new regulations. If you want more, here’s the link from the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/30/washington/30labor.html?emc=eta1 This is a response to being well informed. Stop getting info from one source, especially sources that are skewed.

Merrell, All of our opinions are valid. I’m very open to learn, that’s why I’m out here. But understand that though most of us want the same things—we just go about it in different ways. Things would be better in Washington if the debate were more civil. Can you verify that Bush is opening NP for drilling? I follow politics very closely and have never heard that. And what do you want Obama to reverse and how is he lining his buddies pockets? I appreciate your words, but it’s important that we talk in facts and not in rhetoric. Do you think Obama is not trying to give back to his union buddies by endorsing the union card check law they are trying to pass? This is not one-sided. Politics is politics sometimes. Blessings to you.

Interesting—I didn’t watch the youtube, but did read the AP article. I realize Bush runs the govt. and it’s agencies—but I’m wondering if this is really his priority. I’m for drilling in some areas, but certainly not these. Is it possible that the folks running the BLM are doing their own thing? Doesn’t Congress have jurisdiction in some way? Or maybe it’s all him—if so, pretty silly in my opinion. My mother-in-law is an IL Democrat, union member and running for steward. I’m waiting for her opinion on this; I’ve heard most union members don’t like this (of course, those are from my sources!).

It just occurred to me that my comment might seem like a non sequitur , but it was a response to the conversation between Suzanne and Susan. Where one gets their information seems to be a crucial point. Reading helps. And, by the way, Susan’s statement about do we really care what the rest of the world thinks of us put me in somewhat of a frenzy. I had to read it over several times to make sure I understood what she meant. For anyone to make that statement in this day and age is beyond comprehension.

Phyllis, “Susan’s statement about do we really care what the rest of the world thinks of us put me in somewhat of a frenzy.” lol. Me, too. Although I have ‘Faux News” family members who come up with lines like that. Politeness keeps me from smothering them with a pillow. Ha.

Phyllis, I understand that we need the world’s cooperation in many different ways. I’m not naive. My general statement was meant to say—if it were the right decision and we had to make it for the safety and prosperity of our country—without the rest of the world—would we do it? For instance, would you sacrifice all of New York City and all the people in it to go along with what another country wanted? I’m sure you wouldn’t. So be careful about granting the rest of the world jurisdiction over our best interests. And as a general point of interest, Bush just agreed to go along with the international review of our banks, etc. and to establish international oversight. Doesn’t sound like anything folks have been discussing on here, does it?
