It wouldn’t be a variety show roundup without a shout to Sonny and Cher, whose long-running show firmly cemented their place in American pop culture. Here’s one of our favorites of the then-couple’s routines, the V-A-M-P track!
Comedian Flip Wilson may have been the star of his NBC variety show, which ran from 1970 until 1974, but the 30-minute slot also became a beacon for the day’s biggest stars. Michael Jackson appeared a number of times, as did The Supremes. One of our favorites guests, however, was the incomparable Aretha Franklin, who appears in this 1971 clip singing “Rock Steady.”
