Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews and 8 Other Unforgettable Variety Acts! (Video)

So, you thought we forgot about Dean Martin’s famed variety spectacular? Think again! The legendary entertainer’s NBC series was “must see” before “must see” even existed. Though he pretended to be laid back about the series, which ran from 1965 until 1974, Martin’s said to have rehearsed voraciously – not that he needed it. This man’s a natural-born entertainer, as exhibited in this clip of him and Lena Horne singing a little medley.
Dolly Parton actually got two shots at a variety hour – first in 1977 and then again a decade later. Both shows were called “Dolly Show,” but neither took off and both were canned after a season. This here’s a clip from Parton’s first venture, and shows her performing one of our favorite songs, “Knock Three Times.” Be sure to stay tuned for the special surprise guest at the end!
