Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews and 8 Other Unforgettable Variety Acts! (Video)

Ed Sullivan’s the unofficial king of the American variety show. Yes, Dean Martin will always have a place in our collective hearts, but Sullivan’s show, which ran from 1948 until 1971, introduced countless musical acts to the viewing public. Like who? Well, the Beatles and Elvis definitely owe Sullivan for at least part of their fame. So, too, do Gladys Knight and her Pips, who, in this 1968 clip, perform “If I Were Your Woman.” In case you’re wondering if she’s lip-synching – well, it shouldn’t even be a question!
No matter what your age, everyone loves the Muppets. Those magnificent puppets are reason enough to give the late Jim Henson his angel wings! Kermit, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang were staples of our television line-up circa 1976-1981. And so were their guests, all of whom were wonderful, but this appearance from Ms. Liza Minnelli has always stuck with us!
