Comedienne and '24' Star Janeane Garofalo Offers Thoughts on Republicans, Sarah Palin

Janeane Garofalo/wowOwow

wowOwow was recently taken aback by comedienne and actress Janeane Garofalo.

Garofalo last week performed a stand-up bit at Gotham Comedy Club in NYC to raise money for Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, a nonprofit organization that provides care and rehab to neglected and abused animals. Garofalo, an ultra-liberal political activist and current star on Fox’s "24," gabbed with wOw about politics before her show. And you can be sure she had plenty to say …

On Republicans: "The Republican Party is a white power."

On Sarah Palin: "An asshole is an asshole regardless of gender."

Whoa! Her vegan, liberal friend and co-founder of Woodstock, Jenny Brown, didn’t have the kindest of words to say about the Alaska governor either. "She doesn’t have an ounce of philanthropy," said Brown, who added that Wednesday night’s ticket sales’ profits go toward Woodstock, were down from last year, probably due to the economy. "All she wants to do is breed and hunt. It’s disgusting. Not a philanthropic bone in her body."

Garofalo chimed in. She said, for Palin, "it’s not philanthropy; It’s misanthropy."

While her comedic performance was followed by cheers, we’re sure some Republicans won’t be laughing at those remarks.

No, they certainly won’t. But I happen to admire Garafalo. I’ve seen her a couple of times on Grit TV and she really has a handle on a lot of important issues. But I wouldn’t want her mad at me.

This libertarian thinks Garafalo [a cross between a giraffe and a buffalo?] is unaware of the impact of high energy prices, the consequence of liberal opposition to energy development, on the working poor who will be helped by Palin’s trans-Canada gas pipeline. That seems a lot more philanthropic than cheap insults and the $8/gallon gas that libs want to stick the working poor with.

WHOA! Walter!!!! Libertarians …like Ron Paul…don’t like government interference! Palin made the trans-Canada pipeline an Alaskan State Government entity, when she PAID that Canadian near bust Oil Company the $500K for the right to control…..out of the State of Alaska coffers……instead of doing it the way it is usually done…keeping it out of the government control (with exception of the lobbyists who pretty much own Congress)—-I know, I know, you must have forgotten….

Patty cakes, I be a small l libertarian. I diverged from Ron Paul long ago when he trivialized US interest in foreign affairs. There was no way in hell a private company could have been given permission for that pipeline. The alternative, LNG, would have guaranteed a perpetually higher price for the product and an argument about receiving port locations. Forgotten? Sweetie, my memory is so good I even remember things that never happened. Remember Paris???

I think the flattering photo used above pretty much sums up how seriously we should take this woman’s rants. On the other hand, I’d pay money to see her do a one-woman show on what it was like to be in the Manson family.

Oooohhhh… are we bitter. Jeanine is entitled to her opinion. Obama is a smoker, and many people say that is for trailer trash, is Obama trailer trash? Comparing apples to apples. I happen to agree with her about Palin. I hope she runs in 2014, she will embarrass the GOP even more than George Bush. The only thing I do not want to hear her say is that Pig and the lipstick line again. Geez, if she doesn’t read newspapers (because she couldn’t name one after being asked the same question several times) you know that was NOT her line.

Love Sarah-again brilliant and sly as a fox.

We’ll see Janeane. So many silly girls out there that need some life under their belt beyond pot and pat a cake.

Obama is a previous smoker.  Now, Laura Bush is a chain smoker and hides it..Obama gets forgiven like Repubs and Rush but Laura is still smokin..but I would be doing worse than that if I were married to lil Bush and had to live with that Bush family..

We’re all full of many things-no one is immune to all kinds of temptations. ‘Tis true that often those within a party are willing to point the finger at the other. Bottom line is that we all have our part and blaming one man alone-be it Bush (until the cows come home-eve after he’s gone) or Obama run amuck on bail outs to the trillions (and don’t kid yourself-we’re all gonna be TAXED TO THE MAX in every area of life for the pot babies).

We’ve gotta grow up, turn this thing around, take accountability in ourselves and focus on what we can do for the "GOOD" of our own personal lives, our community and our country. The more that we hand Power and Control over to this present government-the greater LOSS OF AMERICA and what Adams said regarding our Constitution-.."the constitution is for Moral men to practice their religious freedoms…" on the heals of England robbing Men of their Lives and HONOR——Oh WOE——Are we capable of returning to the moral men and women of days gone by? We’ve had a "bit put in our mouths" and are running around like a bunch of scared chickens. A hand up-yep-that’s OK-but not a hand out. A fishing pole-ingenuity-but not a fish. That FISH IS STINKININ OUR ECONOMY EVERY MORNING WHEN WE WAKE UP AND LOOK AT THE DOW-AND IT AIN’T OVER YET BABY.  Just watch us decline-and all because of "Bail out Babies". We just watched the whole history of America go down the tubes in one felled swoop with Obama in, signing his puppet papers for the big boys and the rest is History. No gold left and empty paper that you all will see worth "nothin’ in the end". Hmmmm-HOPE?…well…we are getting CHANGE, aren’t we? And ya’ll thought Big GB was bad at holding back the money mongers?

Or are we so politically anal that we cannot see our nose for our big bunzzies bulging with latte’s, self agrandizement, whining, and gluttony from Papa Hitler? Oh so sad when a person loses the sense of dignity, courage, power, hard work, INDIVIDUALITY, Ethics and the TRUE SELF bought with a price. It’s time to wake up.

Gosh Mary, you sure said it better than I ever could have!  We have to wake up and also quit blaming everyone else and not looking at our part of it.  The American people must take responsibility and quit looking for free hand outs.  Wake Up America and look at what is going on and what path we are being led down!  I really loved your comment Mary, it was so good and right to the point.  Thank You!

Thank you, Deborah.

I started teaching in 1974 as a Music Director (k-12) and taught up through 2002. I’ve also played in clubs for years as a jazz pianist and singer and sat with the "best of the booze crowd" which included me for some time. In those years of watching our world change, having had more "liberal/left" views  when out of college, and made plenty of my own mistakes, I’ve now come to these conclusions. I was in the mode of "saving the world" as an Idealist and young Civil Rights marcher. I have a very muti-racial family and continue to tell my kids today that "it’s on them" and you can’t go back to Uncle Sam’s plantation of the new socialism (there’s a book out now with this term used-written by a black gal who grew up in the welfare system). But I also know after years of tears and still facing challenges that we are ever learning-but need to stop drinking mother’s milk and get to the meat. Get the government out of my hard earned dollars and my back yard!

We are not in charge and did not create ourselves-and until we get off our cocky attitudes-life won’t work. Humility is a must for Peace-accepting our own fragility and bending our knee to our creator (as if we think we even give ourselves the breath of life). If we don’t get to square one-our politics will be skewed and we’ll keep wanting others to fix our problems and not go to the source with an attitude of gratitude and willingness to learn and be taught. This fork in the road can chang an individual and one by one-bring our country back to Freedom and Truth.

The young generation has the means and ability to make this U Turn-and I see it coming, even in the midst of drugs, confusion and despair. THE LIGHT WILL ALWAYS OVERCOME THE DARKNESS and bring cleansing to the thirsty Soul.
