3 Reasons Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
AP

Women are haters. And when they hate, they are "weapons-grade haters."

That’s according to a very playfully toned article by Time magazine’s Belinda Luscombe. The article points out that after Palin’s initial bump in the polls, many of the voters who are now deserting the Alaska governor fastest are women. And it often has nothing to do with her stance on abortion, support for gun rights or the fact she can’t name a newspaper she reads

Luscombe goes on to explain: And once you’re on our hate list – we’ll find a million things wrong with you: hair, voice, hot husband, etc … Admit it, you’ve hated another woman for the mere fact that her hair looks better than yours, or that she is still a size 4 after having three kids.

"When women get their hate on, they don’t just dislike, or find disfavor with, or sort of not really appreciate. They loathe — deeply, richly, sustainingly," she said. "I do not say this to disparage my gender; women also love in more or less the same way."

Those that don’t like John McCain’s running mate don’t necessarily hate her for her politics, but for many of the same reasons some women hate Hillary Clinton. It’s more because these ladies can’t simply pass the test of: "Will the other girls like her?"

Luscombe then goes through the three reasons why Palin doesn’t make the grade: She’s too pretty (after all, pretty girls are only liked by other pretty girls), she’s too confident (most women have self-esteem issues) and she could embarrass us (you screw this up, Sarah, and the rest of us are screwed at work, too).

I personal do not like Palin for her views. I have not liked her from the beginning. When she made us aware that with her in office, the separation of Church and State would be put in jeopardy. then their is the abortion issue, with the Supreme Court at stake as well. It should be in my opinion, a strictly personal decision. Illegal abortion does not end the practice, it just makes it so the wealthy will have them safely and other women will flood the emergency rooms near death, just as they did prior to Wade Roe. And many of us do not find her at all ready for the VP role, because she does not come across very sharp, unless it is a pre memorized Speech, which someone else has written for her. I also have a serious problem with he rout right lies! Lies from my VP and President after the last 8 years is the last thing I want! Equal Rights does not mean equal if you play the Girl card in the Political Ring. We that do not like her for the office of VP, have for far more reasons than this article eludes too. I am not that shallow and I do not think the women on this forum will find this less than an insulting article. I do think she looks great for her age and having had five children. But I fail to see what that has to do with the Office of Vice President. And as she not so slyly let’s us know, The Office of President. If this is Catty, Oh well, I just also don’t want to have to listen to her voice, it disturbs me, it grates on my nerves. And when I see her as a candidate for such High office, it is mind boggling.

Kelly, Jennifer…agree. I do not ‘hate’ anything or anyone, don’t ever use the word. There are loads of women I admire, and nothing’s better than to see and cheer competent women get ahead. Palin is an overreaching, trashy looking, oil company tool, a complete hick, a dolt, and everything I loathe. Can’t even stand to look at her. McCain has put his desire to be prez ahead of what’s in the interest of the country or the world. Look forward to Sarahgeddon winging back to the outback…soon, ‘ya betcha.” Where she and Todd can pop open the Bud’s and get back to work to breeding an entire Hockey team of offspring. It will be a great day when the no class, no taste, no brains duo of Wrinkley and Winky out of my line of sight. Ugh.

Kelly, for me you’ve hit the nail straight on the head. That he thought so little of the American public and didn’t choose a woman capable of this momentous job was embarrassing - window dressing at best. If they are elected I’m afraid America gets what it deserves… a popular, attractive, yes bright, (she had to have something going for her to be elected to two offices) but not well rounded individual running for the most serious public office job in the free world. I’m sure the republicans could name hundreds upon thousands of other women if they thought something of the electorate. Heck what about the wealth of female judges, lawyers, educators and lawmakers, people who went to one college straight through who have a better handle on world views than she. The window dressing, power suits, woman they’d like to bang and pink cardigans aside she is just WRONG in so many ways for an office this high. I can’t even imagine that McCain had a serious conversation with her where he asked her opinion surrounding nuclear arms, the conflicts in Afghanistan, what newspapers she reads (heck she wouldn’t have been able to name even ONE!), the Bush Doctrine and her feelings about it - how his way of leading might be different (oh, wait, my mistake, she didn’t even KNOW what the Bush Doctrine is!)—- only makes me dislike him more by association. I dislike her for being so clueless on issues of international affairs and then taking a smug attitude with someone like Joe Biden who if anyone, she should have respected him for his knowledge and experience and not been so self righteous and arrogant. Last night in the debate she illustrated to me that she CLEARLY doesn’t have answers for anything she hasn’t been spoon fed and went so far as to ignore the questions she was unable to answer. Its not even like she will be an asset other than to garner votes where John McCain was his weakest.

Alyson, John McCin had only meet her once before bringing her to us for VP, and that was two years prior. AND as She has told us she never even thought about the answer to whether or not she should take the position, “Without a Blink”. AS well their were no meetings of McCain and Palin prior to his decsion to pick her, which makes a lot of us think that Carl Rove picked her, for the Girl Card and that just is offensive to all women. Their are so many qualified and able women, Palin just is not.

I agree hate is a strong word. I don’t trust her - her responses are too scripted and you can tell when she is not comfortable with her answer (aka lying). I do have respect for her as a mother out there running for VP - huge accomplishment. Misty Gibbs, Founder My Inspiration Lounge http://www.myinspirationlounge.com

Certainly can’t fault her on accomplishment/acievement/sense of duty…..Hooray for the over-achieving good old girl….Best last hope of the boondocks… But qualified to lead us globally? Someone we want speaking for us on the global stage…..Is this the best of the best? Lordy, lordy, lordy….What a dispiriting, embarrassment to anyone with a modicum of intelligence…..

Puh-leez! To be sure, there are those women to whom these things matter. But this is a Presidential Election for god’s sake and there are enormous issues stake, domestically and internationally. What we look for, at least those of us who have brains among our other organs/attributes, is gravitas, real knowledge of the issues (not something crammed into us in boot camp) and real-life experience on a stage large enough to translate to the world stage. The rules that apply are not respective of gender or any other subjective bias. To make this once more an object of political party versus objective critique is truly sad. Even Sarah Palin deserves better than that, and every voting woman certainly does.

I don’t hate her… I think she was a poor choice. I think McCain was looking out for his interests only. I think as president he would do the same. Palin frightens me but that fear does not make me hate her. I could care less about her looks. It’s about her intelligence. I don’t find her to be the candidate that is in the best interest of our country. I could give you 3 reasons, but just typing this much depresses me. I’m going back to Lily Tomlin’s area where I can be happy.

Hi Josie, are you making art today or just visiting over at Lily’s? Did you go to the debate? It was close to you, right? OK…I hate this article and post…..no…not “hate”…I don’t hate…Let’s say I find this post “repellent”…off-putting….insulting….Except, of course, the like-minded posts….duh… I’ve been on the receiving end of it enough, thanks….First episode I’m really aware of was in 6-7-8th grade when I would get beaten up on the long walk home by tough factory girls from my class for getting the spelling words right…So the message was “see what being smart’ll get you?” But I’m not above an occasional loathing….in SP’s case, it’s “Fear and Loathing” but I’ll get over it really fast….Not worthy of my energy… I just wish that when she was asked to be VP that she had had the grace and self-knowledge and wisdom to say “thanks, but no thanks”…for that ticket to ride on the backs of her “base” About hating: there is that element of jealousy and also fear…and also “they protest too much”…something not acknowledged in one’s self or seen as lacking in one’s self…Like when the ranting/raving “homophobe” is caught in the mens’ room in flagrante delicto…(in flaming crime)…Just look at the hater very carefully…and examine very thoroughly the person/thing/thought being so despised. It is so telling….sometimes totally transparent….later, doll….

As a woman, I’m glad that Sarah Palin didn’t make a complete fool of herself last night, as she has in the past week. That said, in no way did it change my mind about her or McCain!!! The folksey stuff, might have worked some years back, but this is too important of an election, to even consider her. I think she did women a disservice with all the winking, and demeaning smack downs to Joe. I thought he treated her with dignity & respect—she was on a mission and could not afford him the same!! She talked about & said exactly what was rehearsed with her, and nothing more. Even throwing it in the our faces, that she doesn’t intend too. According to the polling, most people have a lot of the same impressions that I got from her, a smooth ambitious politician, that is not right for this election!!

Donna, Thank you for making some very valid points. I have a problem with the winking , I found it very inappropriate to the event. I found her announcement of I am not going to debate, I am just going to say my speech, a real slap to all of us in this country, very disrespectful of the event and the office of which she is seeking. Do we want someone that winks and is defiant of diplomacy as our VP and further more as our President. Please America tell me NO we do not want the winking VP. She behaves as if she is running for a Pageant title.

Donna, From your comments, it’s obvious who you’re going to vote for. I thought both Biden and Palin were both respectful to each other and both did a fine job. Last night this great Country of ours got to see the real Sarah Palin because it was live and there was no editing. Biden is a good person and it showed last night. I wish the best for both of them. Hey, and guess what, that folksey stuff as you put it represents the vast majority of Americans who will be voting next month for one of the most important elections of our time. Personally, I thought it was genuine. I agree Palin was well rehearsed and wouldn’t you agree and Biden rehearsed as much as she did? Big news flash, they all do it! While I’m still an undecided I give both props for a job well done (even though they both had their facts wrong at times) Take care, Donna!

Barbara, While I respect your comments, I don’t think we saw the real Sarah Palin. She did not answer the questions asked of her, and mostly would answer with some point she wanted to get across again. While I’m sure Joe Biden did rehearse, you can just tell he knows his facts, and could wing it on most any subject. From what she said, I don’t think we will get to see her unscripted anytime soon. She did herself well last night, and stopped the bleeding from her base, but I don’t think she changed any minds. I agree they both had some facts wrong. I felt like she was really flip, when Joe Biden was talking about the loss of his wife & worry about his 2 boys. That was a time when she could have shown some compassion and realness, but she didn’t.

Are you suggesting that the other interviews, Katie Couric’s for example, was edited to make her look like she had no answer ? I find it so interesting that perception influences what we see, that two people can see the same interview and come away with such different conclusions. I really feel that it has to with a preconceived notion. Very interesting. When do you think you will make up your mind, and what are you basing your decision on ? I’m not trying to be “cute” here, I just find an undecided voter this late in the game to be curious, and I would love to know what will push you to one side or another.
